1. That's the Bush Administration for ya!
Remember Jon Stewart's comparison on Bush's talks. I can't wait until these people are only in the history books, and not in our lives anymore. John McCain along with them. He's over when he loses, you know.

2. I believe he misunderstood:
"Martial Law" In House of Representatives

Under the martial law procedure, long-standing House rules that require at least one day between the unveiling of significant legislation and the House floor vote on that legislation — so that Members can learn what they are being asked to vote on — are swept away. Instead, under “martial law,” the Leadership can file legislation with tens or hundreds of pages of fine print and move immediately to debate and votes on it, before Members of Congress, the media, or the public have an opportunity to understand fully what provisions have been altered or inserted into the legislation behind closed doors. This is the procedure that the Leadership intends to use to muscle through important bills in the next two days.

3. No he didn't,he meant in the streets
that said, they may have been given a full worst case scenario brief... which includes martial law

If this was a worst case scenario brief, it is bad enough

And if he is right? Then all the screaming and warning has been for naught

5. He Was Not Referring To Martial Law in the House
He specifically refers to Martial Law in America.

When will we ever start to take this shit seriously. We know that bushco is capable of it. Its about time we quit dismissing these so called tin foil hat conspiracy theories and actually start viewing this as a legit possibility.

15. So does this mean our soldiers will come back home from Iraq now?
Obviously the answer must be yes. If not, who will enforce it?

the bailout, there would be martial law in the us -

& they called the armtwister's bluff - blood didn't run in the streets, no martial law.

16. Does Bush have the authority to single-handedly declare martial law?
Can Bush suspend habeas corpus on US citizens?

Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 11:38 AM by dgibby
however, the law/Constitution/Bill of Rights has never stopped Buscho yet.
I'm sure a signing statement would take care of pesky little things like that.

reinstating the Posse Comitatus law. Saying basically he could interpret it however the hell he wanted. What else would you expect?

25. He can declare anyone in america an enemy combatant for nearly any reason
suspending all of that person's rights. The military commissions act gives him scary broad powers at home. Obviously they pissed all over posse comitatus.

Your post clearly explains what this means, but all of these "The Sky is falling!" people refuse to think coherently. I guess Sarah Palin is rubbing off on some of them.

over FISA, last summer, was it? He was claiming there was a fresh new Terrah alert, and that it was targeted at Capital Hill.
There were reports of beefed up HSS all around the hill, to drive home his message. Congress was balking and scheduled for recess. Paradoxically against this backdrop of this "dire new threat", he was threatening to keep them there under those conditions until they passed his bill.

10. Don't forget
the anthrax attacks on dems in congress who were opposed to Patriot Act.
I suspect a lot of members of congress are very nervous right now. No wonder the Senate passed the bailout. Just think, they actually KNOW Cheney personally, and also know what he's capable of when he's crossed.

Bush's executive order that grants himself dictatorial powers in the event of a major "economic catastrophe".

"b) "Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions ... "

He was talking about Martial Law in the streets. I can see Bush deploying troops for large crowds at banks trying to get their money out. Our Congress is overwhelmingly filled with criminals. I'm feeling less and less confident about any kind of "change" in the future. From anyone.

"We know where your kids go to school. Vote for the bill." What's the difference really? Wouldn't put it past them. A gangster is a gangster.

28. The FBI should have Sherman in a safe house right now
Taking his statement and preparing charges of treason against the white house. They threatened state sponsored terrorism in my opinion. Bush would have spit on posse comitatus and put the army and blackwater in charge of the US.
