Paulson's Plan Won't Work. This is not the S&L bailout. This is the purchasing of worthless assets held by major financial firms. These assets are worthless because no one is paying the mortgages behind these assets. Also, these assets are heavily dependent on the housing market stabilizing itself which is a joke. The housing market is in a decade long nosedive due to over-supply. Because we've had stagnant job and wage growth throughout this decade, millions of people don't qualify to purchase a home. Add in the demographic factor of millions of baby boomers looking to sell their homes to fund their retirement, and you get the deacade long depreciation of housing prices.

We're looking at an economic disaster on the same scale as Japan's deflationary downward spiral in the 90s, only the difference is that Japan has a strong social saftey net and a gigantic export business in autos and electronics. Those two items kept their country in tact. We have no such fall back.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are each totally clueless on the economy. They both rely on "experts" like Phil and Wendy Gramm who believe that govt should only be used to help the rich and the powerful. In addtion, McCain only wants the presidency so that he can wage war against the Iranians. A war that will completely destroy our economy.

3. I totally agree...this is for all the marbles.
We have one last shot to deal with this cancer. I'll be watching the polling real close over the next few days. I hope the 'other side' realizes that, if they "win" again, they'll lose completely, along with the rest of them. I live in rural Maine and I've been canvassing for the past month. I cannot believe how clueless so many low information voters are with regards to what's really going on in this country. As far as they know, this is just another election where there's not a dime worth of difference between them. Most have no internet or get the news. Their only news is local fluff and 30 minutes of whatever Chuck, Katie, or Brian feel like mentioning. Gawd help us.

4. I disagree. If this bail out is passed, the Feds will be in charge of what they do to the people
were dunned with doubling their interest rates, thus making it impossible for them to pay their mtg. I dont know what they're going to do, but it makes sense to me for them to freese the interest rate at what they were promised and let them pay their mtg! It's also not true that ALL the mtgs. are bad. These are bundled, and I'm sure there are good, bad, and iffy in those bundles. Of this is played right, the losses won't be nearly as bad as you think.

5. These Mortgage Back Securities Are Worthless
That's why the ONLY buyer of them is the U.S. govt.

7. I guess we'll see. I think you're wrong in believing they're ALL bad.
The Feds will be able to stabalize the interest rates to something rational, and it's in thier interest to do so. It's called "lets make a deal!" I think a lot of the people who really WANT to keep their homes will find a deal and be able to keep their homes. That will be a good/good situation. Sure there will be bad loans but I don't believe the net result will be as bad as everyone is predicting.
