2. This is the nexus of issues that this administration's crimes distract us from
even as they divert our funds into their cronies' pockets.

Let's try to focus up.

4. Katrina gave us a very up close & personal look at poverty... nothing has changed since then.
The budget cuts have continued... and will continue... unless we act.

For the love of Justice, the damn phone calls are free; it just takes a few minutes of a person's time!

What will it take for the people in this country to open their eyes and their hearts and do something?

What will it take?????

11. Where your taxes go

Only a mass movement that brings DC to it's knees can stop the US Military-Corporate- Media complex. Nothing short of that. Understand this as a soft-pedaled technocratic dictatorship that is owned and operated by Lockheed-Martin and Halliburton and Exxon-Mobil and examine the tactics necessary to deal with that.

It's going to take large-scale sustained mobilization from all manner of folks. Everyone is ready. What's it going to take?

The money, which is rightfully ours to begin with, will not go to human needs until we take it back. It's ours. Stop asking. Start demanding!

12. Kick1 Kick! Kick!
:kick: :kick: :kick:

yes depleted Uranium is important, yes the troops deserve our attention and yes the poor, sick, elderly and disabled also need our attention. welfare is LESS THAN 1% of our budget and they keep cutting it ~ and then these selfish greedy Republicans started ann unneccissary war, gave rich people all the tax breaks, took away food and healthcare from babies, and instead of emplying Iraqis or us, they gave Halliburton BILLIONS of dollars in no-bid contracts that they LOSE and do not have to account for, while blaming the poor for all our domestic woes. Poor single moms are at the bottom of the barrel and it is getting worse.

What this war has cost would house millions in thia country, give full college educations to all adults, fund childcare, fund healthcare for everyone, and still there would be money left over to create more jobs.

Where are our representative"s priorities? Are these so-called "Christian" values? I guess so, if you are a selfish, greedy right wing nut going to your mega-church, letting them use fear to control you, and haunting the over priced Christian bookstore for your plastic glowing Jeeeezus. Most REAL people of God would be joining Rev Wallis and en mass and storm the capitol refusing to leave until every child was fed.

My 2 cents

14. Sing it!
US Military budget is 800 billion per year far more than the grotesque as it is stated figure. Until the people gather for a storm in the streets all of our hopes will be swallowed by the Death Machine that kills the hopes of so many children in other nations.

20. You know I love you Sapphire Blue, but can I make a request
during the week I only have what feels like minutes to try to read threads in the early am and late evening (due to workin what feels like around the clock). I know your posts are important. If in my quick DU read I see you have posted - I will always click to read and try to participate. When it is a link to another thread (and I am in I only have a short time to weed through a whole lot of reading - and thus skip others) *please* if the post is to call attention to another thread, please give me some kind of heads up or quick synposis or even content summary of the other thread. One or two sentences. I have so little time that I sift through (and don't read - sorry DUers when I am on the 12+ hour work schedule days plus more work on weekends) a lot of threads.

I try to always read your threads - and those of a few others. That is - generally I skim headline/topics (and skip alot) and try to read/respond and act on some. On the days that I have more time (rare) I can read more threads more carefully and going from one thread to another is no problem. But on what I call *power reads* (like power walks - fast - try to get some muscle/thought and response in - but only have short time to do so) - I have to skip a lot of threads. Do a quick "what is x or y about"...

Long way of giving a little constructive criticism. Give me a little more per topic than a single link to another thread. When I am on extremely limited time - it would help me (and others stuck in *power read* per described above mode.) Thanks SB. In no way do I mean to dismiss issues of poverty (indeed that intersects directly with my professional life.) Guessing that a quick synopsis per topic, may entice more readers stuck in my "short read" mode.

Why is this improtant (beyond salin's convenience) I learned a few years ago that I posted alot of info on a couple of topics that got few responses. Felt like I was talking to an empty chamber. But over time more different folks posted on the threads. Than a year or more later when the topic reemerged more and more folks responded - and many with references to the earlier discussios/threads. Point being that many more folks read (and act) on threads than respond on those threads. But the discussions need to be aive long enough for folks to read them (harder today when the forum is so much larger than in earlier days.) A little more info on threads refering to other info/discussions would probably get more initial reads which I have learned lead to many more folks reading and acting/passing on than I was ever aware of in the initial discussions.

All that said - thank you for continuing to bring imp discussions to this forum. :loveya:

25. IMO, "27. Could we please make the BUDGET as important an issue as .....: " speaks for itself:
"BUDGET"

Those that are time-limited can decide whether or not they want to click on a link about the BUDGET.

If someone cares about the BUDGET, I hope they will click on the link to this very important post by bobbolink that I didn't want to be overlooked... thus this thread, directing people to her post.

38.  You are so right about that dinosaur!
I don't know how you are using that figure of speech, but what it immediately put me in mind of is the fact that poor follk have been very acquiesent. We have been quietly suffering, and quietly dying, one by one.

If liberals don't get it together and start taking poverty seriously and FIX IT!, poor folk will eventually get angry, and that dinosaur may start roaring. If the roaring doesn't get results, the dinosaur may start stomping around and squishing people.

Are we all smart enough to LISTEN?
