Why are we showing so much deference to the GOP lying?
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 08:45 PM by ColbertWatcher
They're liars. Their lies have been exposed. Every single person knows they lie.

Every one.

But, they also steal elections (or rather commit election fraud). There have been at least 3 different possible caging operations exposed on DU in the past week. We need to be working on preventing these scams instead of wasting time exposing what liars they are. They've told enough lies to have earned the title. We are giving them too much deference when they deserve none.

Yes, we can collect and keep track of all their lies, but enough is enough. We already know they lie. No more proof is needed: the GOP is made up of liars.

They also steal elections. This is where we should be concentrating our energies: stopping them from committing election fraud again.

Is this how you would treat a child who continuously lies and steals? Is this how you would treat anyone you know who continuously lies and steals? Worry about what they say and ignore what they do?

We know the GOP puts faces and names up as their candidates for public office, but the unelected, out-of-the-reach-of-accountability, behind-the-scenes party operatives run everything.

We have 52 days and counting to decide what our priorities are and act to protect them.

Are we going to allow ourselves to chase every lie they say, while ignoring the on-going election theft!?

It's not the lying; it's the stealing.

5. How are they hypocrites? Would we rather them perfectly adhere to their fucked up ideologies?
A hypocritical Republican would be one who secretly helps labor or funds the anti-war movement. They're not hypocrites. They're sociopaths. The idea that they're 'hypocrites' implies that they have worthy values that they simply fail to live up to. They have none. They have an ideology that they adhere to perfectly.

6. (The GOP) "have an ideology that they adhere to perfectly."
Yes, well said.

The GOP are nothing if not obedient.

7. You speak the truth, and a great post. I was thinking along the lines of how
they push the "moral" Christian "God is on our side" meme, while they break the basic tenants against lying and stealing.

8. Exactly. We need to stop 'researching' their lives for 'gotchas' and start using what we have.
They want to charge rape victims for their rape test kits. DO WE NEED ANY MORE AMMO THAN THIS?

Of course it is not politically possible for the Democratic party to challenge them on many issues, partially because they have at times aided and abetted the lies and partially because it's not politically expedient. But why don't we have 527s that attack Republicans the way they attack Democrats? I don't get it. They fund an anti-Clinton 527 called C.U.N.T. and then they can distance themselves from the remark but put it in the public's mind. Why can't we fund a 527 called T.H.I.E.V.E.S. and run commercials about election fraud?

10. Du is as good as a 527.
We can create buzz.

If you've got an idea, post it and another DUer can post something on YouTube.

The rest of the DU community can Digg it up and make it viral.

We have everything we need; we are what we've been waiting for.

9. the rules have been gradually twisted
it is now officially, unarguably okay for repukes to tell blatant lies--the more blatant the better.

there is an elaborate courtly dance that takes place inside DC, which is 100% repuke land. All must do that dance and it is extremely gauche--gauche to the point of shunning--to ever criticize a repuke who has been "blessed" by the holy DC trinity of Rove, Norquist and FoxNews.

11. Then we go over their heads.
Around them, through them, whatever we need to do we do it.

We have 52 days left.

12. Here is why
I wonder if you know what the word means.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/deference

It is not deference to point out the lies. They absolutely must be pointed out. This is how undecided voters can be swayed.

Not only do we need to ensure fair elections (And I'm sure far too little attention is being paid to that aspect). But we also need to sway the voters as much as we can. I still think we can make the margin too large for election fraud to make a difference.

We need determined and informed voters AND we need to be alert to the Con's attempts to rig the election.

13. The question was: What do you do to liars and thieves in real life?
Do you spend time debunking their lies while turning a blind eye to their theft?

Or do you dismiss them based on their previous lies and concentrate on their theft?

14. A pretty bad example of election hijinks fell in my lap today
The latest republican mailer. It is a request for an absentee ballot. It was mailed to an address in my county and goes to the election office in another county. The preprinted return address is wrong or absent.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3994705

I scanned it on my old antique scanner for DU to look at and despair.

All the ballots being mailed to Democrats by the McLiar campaign is also voter fraud.
