What's with all the "leave it alone" bullshit??
I swear some of you sound like the "Dry Powder Gang" and the Impeachnophobes... lack of intestinal fortitutde will get your ass kicked in politics every time....

Get a grip already, will you? It's not the time to play nice. The repiglicans never play nice & it's time to beat them at their own game... They didn't leave Amy Carter alone, they didn't leave Chelsea Clinton alone and they didn't leave Bill Clinton's sex life alone, did they? It's time to play smashmouth politics, if you're too weak, go sit on the porch. In case you've never heard, nice guys finish last.. just ask Al Gore & John Kerry...

Load up and hit 'em with both barrels.. hit 'em with everything you've got...(and according to the repig playbook, it doesn't even have to be true, just repeat it enough and people will start believing it)

11. There's smarm and bile ... and then there's election reform.
Be as nasty as you like. If the Republicans get away with cheating on the vote counting, you lose. And you will have alienated new voters and decent people.

Fight fair -- but fight REAL HARD to make sure every vote is counted! Then, brass knuckles are allowed.

30. Was there an Ann Coulter in the 18th century calling for death to all liberals?
Seriously, I don't have enough history to compare the levels of smarm and bile. Perhaps there's always been a party of the (few) wealthy and a party of the (many) commonfolk. The outnumbered wealthy ALWAYS have to resort to outrageous and unethical tactics.

And my main point: all these questions of tactics and rhetoric don't matter if the other guy has hacked the voting machines.

Personally, I'd feel better if my party took the high road. And I think Obama's doing that.

36. In the beginning
both parties were the party of the wealthy -- there was no party of the commonfolk.

The first contested election was between Jefferson and Adams and it was, for the mores of its time, pretty nasty.

No, there was no Ann Coulter -- but I don't consider her part of the political process -- just a crazy woman who is given too much consideration by the media.

52. That sounds right. When did two-wealthy-party setup change? Or did it?
Do you agree that NOW there is a party of the interests of the wealthy and a party of the interests of the commonfolk?

And if so, when did one of the wealthy parties change?

There's always been a weird switcheroo in American History that has confused me. Before the Civil War, the Republicans were anti-slavery/liberal and the Democrats were pro-slavery/conservative. Abolitionist Frederick Turner & Abe Lincoln were Republican, for example. Is that part of it?

55. No, I don't agree
Actually, now it's worse than it's ever been. Corporate interests control both parties.

The U.S. political system has been carefully crafted to ensure that no one who questions the natural goodness of the military-industrial-corporate power structure will be allowed through the portals of power.

It’s not a real choice. It’s an apparent choice. Like choosing a brand of detergent. Whether you buy Ivory Snow or Tide, they’re both owned by Proctor & Gamble.

This doesn’t mean that one takes a position that is without nuance, that the Congress and the BJP, New Labor and the Tories, the Democrats and Republicans are the same. Of course, they’re not. Neither are Tide and Ivory Snow. Tide has oxy-boosting and Ivory Snow is a gentle cleanser.

72. I think the powers behind the Republican Party
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 03:33 AM by Art_from_Ark
have always been the money grubbers. To them, the Civil War was more about controlling the economy of the South than it was about ending slavery. Lincoln did what they wanted him to do (defeat the South), and then they bumped him off. Lincoln's successor was given hell for the next 4 years (including being impeached), then they got their man Grant in the White House whose administration became known for its corruption (but Grant was beyond reproach). The Liberal wing of the Republican Party challenged Grant's wing in the Election of 1872 in the candidacy of Horace Greely ("Go West, young man!"), who was defeated, paving the way for 4 more years of Grant administration corruption.

Then, in 1876, the Republicans stole the election from the real winner, Democrat Samuel Tilden, but the Democrats allowed the Republican candidate, Rutherford Hayes, to become President, if the Republicans would end "Reconstruction". The Republicans, feeling that their carpetbaggers had probably squeezed enough out of the South, agreed, believing that a Hayes administration would continue the "tradition" of the Grant administration. When Hayes turned out to be not so bad, they dumped him for James Garfield in 1880. Garfield apparently wanted to be a more liberal President, so he was bumped off and his Vice President, Chester Arthur, took over. But Arthur wasn't as bad as the party bigwigs had hoped he would be, so they dumped him in 1884 in favor of James G. Blaine, who ended up losing to Democrat Grover Cleveland.

undoubtedly drawn by the keyword "Democratic" and wanting everyone on this board to ascribe to the methods that lose elections.

I sense a disturbance in the force that suggests that these professional infiltrators may have even "volunteered" to moderate this board so don't "call out" someone who walks down the middle of the road.

You're not DLC unless you're a party firster. Democrats don't need leaders, they need viable candidates who don't have to rent, borrow or steal a spine. People like this don't run in packs, they stand alone, the rest will just naturally follow.

64. C'mon admins, these LCD's deserve their own forum,...
undeniably they've got the numbers but they're too modest (or something) to ask
so I'll ask for them, how about it?
----------------------------------------------------
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

67. Load up and hit 'em with both barrels. IF they get up Load up and hit 'em with both barrels again.
If they don't get up Load up and hit 'em with both barrels anyway the un-dead never die.

74. If you want to lose "Choice", leave "it" alone!
Frankly, I don't give a damn that McCain was a POW or that Palin is a woman, they both stand in the way of the restoring adherence to the U.S. Constitution and restoring the rule of law.
