Conyers To Consider Contempt Citation for Mukasey Tomorrow
HJC To Consider Contempt Citation for Mukasey Tomorrow
By Kate Klonick - September 9, 2008, 6:06PM

Finally! Congress is back from va-cay, and they've got lots of work to do before years end and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) is wasting no time.

Tomorrow morning, the Committee is scheduled to consider a citation for contempt for Attorney General Michael Mukasey for his failure to supply documents in accordance with the subpoena issued in late June.

The meeting is set to start at 10:15 EST. We'll be sure to keep you updated on what happens.

5. I can easily second guess John Conyers. I'm not as busy as he is.
He certainly has had a burden to bear with this administration. I don't know how they can handle the stonewalling and Cheney-esque "Go F*ck Yourself" attitude towards Congress from the Bush Junta, not to mention the sheer workload!!

8. Congressional democrats brought the Bushies' -- and the country's -- disrespect on themselves...
... precisely by doing what Conyers does best these days: Talking like a populist and behaving like a GOP/RNC accomplice and corporate invertebrate.

Given his history in congress, it's a shame how far he's sunk. He's become just another modern democrat -- far more afraid of getting trashed on Fux Nudes than doing his job by representing his constituents. Every time he equivocates about whether to hold one of these revolting Bushie parasites in contempt, he's just adding to his own irrelevance.

I think by now everybody's heard of "inherent contempt." It sounds like it was created to deal with this exact situation. But Conyers acts like this doesn't exist, or that he's not clear about it and must read up and study and figure things out.

Except at progressive pep rallies, when he trades that befuddled act for his fighting populist role and cons another room of anti-Bush activists -- so desperate for so long for impeachment, or at least some kind of accountability -- that even Conyers' standard rope-a-dope gives them hope and energy to continue the fight.

The whole damn democratic party -- taking its cue from the stunningly inert and/or mobbed up house and senate "leadership" -- has become very easy to ignore because its members no longer stand for anything of any consequence. Everybody knows they won't fight for their principles -- or even their personal dignity and self-respect -- because they no longer have any.

What they do stand for is more of the same pervasive anti-progressive, status quo-perpetuating horseshit that the GOP has used to strangle this country for generations. Everybody knows predatory capitalism and corporate dominance are 100 percent fatal to any democratic republic.

It does, however, guarantee them the continued financial support of their corporate employers, so everything else means fuck all to these corrupt status climbers.

Not that there's much concern about all this in the general population, where nobody really seems to give much of a damn about anything but money and how quickly they can accumulate it. So it's BFD and RIP for the great experiment. Better luck next time.
