If you think outsourcing / insourcing doesn't hurt Americans read this
I thought this was so important I felt everyone should read it

From another member of DU

A friend of mine recently committed suicide and the H1-B issue was her passion and anathema since most of her potential contracts in the last two years had either been outsourced to foreign countries or given to H1-B visa holders. This is someone who'd always been very successful in her field and now couldn't afford to live. This is a critical issue and has guilty parties pushing H1-B visas on both sides of the aisle (John Kerry comes to mind -- he was her senator). It's all to benefit their owners: the corporations.

1. That's terrible
And only going to worsen.

Her blood is on the hands of greedy U.S. corporations.

2. Look Into Their Eyes
These people lost high-tech jobs to low-wage countries. Try telling them that offshoring is a good thing in the long run.

6. I know. It's so frustrating.
And by the time it happens to them, it's too late.

4. Corporate America has been in love with cheap
labor since the days of slavery.

They don't care about whether Americans have jobs or whether anyone has the means to support themselves. They buy the politicians (of both parties) and get legislation written on their behalf.

What really needs to be done is to create one big union (IWW) so that there is no where on the globe corporate America or corporate Britain or corporate Europe, etc can run to for cheap labor. Make every job a good paying union job with rights and benefits. Make it too expensive for them to outsource jobs.

Once that happens (if it ever happens) then outsourcing will stop, until we make alien contact and then the corporations pit ETs against humans.

8. I'm sorry to hear that.
I know of a family who just lost their home and are now living with their parents (with their children, as well) due to the fact that jobs are scarce in the IT field.

They've become very bitter as they continue to pay off their student loans.

13. Ah yes, the student loans, not only are we supposed to compete
for a fraction of the wages, but pay off huge debts for the privilege.

14. No it isn't, it is actively ignored.
This man went from being one the elite in his field to homeless. He couldn't take it.

17. H1-B, outsourcing and illegal immigrants all have the same effect.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 11:16 PM by Edweird
They eliminate American jobs and decimate wages while lowering quality and safety. It's lose-lose, unless you're a short sighted bloodsucking corporate boss looking for a quick bonus based on imaginary 'improvements'.
