Global warming time bomb/ Current far-reaching effects on US
Global warming time bomb trapped in Arctic soil
PARIS (AFP) – Climate change could release unexpectedly huge stores of carbon dioxide from Arctic soils, which would in turn fuel a vicious circle of global warming, a new study warned Sunday.

And according to one commentary on the research, current models of climate change have not taken this extra source of greenhouse gas into account.

Scientists have long known that organic carbon trapped inside a blanket of frozen permafrost covering one fifth of the world's land mass would, if thawed, release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Asian soot, smog may boost global warming in US
September 5 2008 12:42AM
Associated Press
Washington (AP) A new report says smog and soot in China can have far-reaching effects on Global Warming even as far away as the United States.

The federal science report says so-called shorter-term pollutants may raise summer temperatures in the American heartland by three degrees in about 50 years.

Shorter-term pollutants come mostly from burning wood and kerosene and from driving trucks and cars. The authors of the report say they cause more localized warming than once thought. The scientists contend there should be a greater effort to attack this type of pollution for faster results.

2. 60% more organic carbon in soils than thought before - 1/6 of entire carbon content of atmosphere
Our lives must be given over in near entirety to dealing with this issue.

Frankly: :scared:

4. people food?...
It was a movie, staring Charlton Heston set in the year 2022... People are still the same. They'll do anything to get what they need. Taking advantage of a glaring need for food, a mega-corporation creates a bazaar kind of "people food" called SOYLENT GREEN.

5. Ha ha, no. It was a vet joke. When an animal gets diagnosed with
a soon-to-be-fatal disease, we remark among ourselves that the pet's owner shouldn't buy a big bag of cat (or dog) food. One never says this directly to the client, as a general rule.

The point was this: we are pretty much doomed. The sequestered CO2 is gonna be a no-win situation.

6. That's when it's time to give the pet the "Pink Juice"
another vet joke. Pentobarbitol solution for euthanasia is pink

Been there. Done that.

11. It's best you not think about it
It's really hard to face the loss of a patient, whether human or animal and because we in the helping professions do that on a regular basis and still need to be emotionally available for our patients and their families, gallows humor reigns in the back rooms. It's a release valve so we can truly be available for you. The people who don't joke are the ones who crack, who go postal.

10. Many professions that deal with death have their own humor...
it helps them deal with the emotion of the job.

12. I should have read a bit further
I gave the other poster a little glimpse into the universality of that phenomenon and you pegged it perfectly.
