Bravo Jamie Lee Curtis!!!
She states concisely and clearly what is wrong with the Palin pick:

The scariest thing I hear about the Palin nomination was that she would appeal to voters because they would be able to relate to her and she to them. I get that. There are many places where relatability is key. I am a recovering addict alcoholic and finding another group that relates to my struggles is/was key to my sobriety. When I am at school I find myself grouping with others whose kids share the same issues, interests. People tell me all the time that the More magazine article where I showed what my real body looked like in comparison to the air brushed images most women are fed, was important and made me relatable. That too is great. The problem is I may be relatable and share some of your experiences and concerns but you don't want me as president of United States. Relatability gets you nothing in a complex financial crisis. Relatability doesn't help you understand the Gordian knot of trouble in the Middle East. Relatability doesn't help you untangle the obscenity which is our health care and insurance system and relatability doesn't train the hundreds of thousands of new teachers and repair and rebuild the smashed infrastructure and schools where they work.

I couldn't hold my own for one minute in a debate on any issue with someone like a Barack Obama or Joseph Biden and neither can Sarah Palin. When the call comes at 3AM I want a mind who was at the top of their class, who has gravitas and a real intellect. I want a leader who is a scholar who can hold the history of civilization in his head and will read and learn from the past as he charts the future. Real debates, where issues are explored, are the only way, prior to an election, to get the two candidates and their running mates to share their ideas and plans for the myriad contingencies they will/might face. This isn't a test. We don't get a re-do. This is the hardest time this generation has ever faced and people are all scared about the economy, our health care and mostly our children's futures. That is what millions of Americans and I can relate to.

And I figure you have to give people a bit of leeway when it comes to supporting personal friends--and it's not like Arnold's Pat Buchanan.

3. She's a very smart and good person, according to friends who
know her.

A guy I know co-wrote a book with Janet Leigh about the making of "Psycho." When Jamie saw the list of guests for the release party, she said: "No one is going to turn out to see all these fossils." She got on the phone and had half of young Hollywood there. That's how much she is liked.

This morning on Morning Joe in response to whether Sarah Palin will submit to any interviews, Rick Davis said in response to whether Gov. Palin would be doing ANY interviews or answering any invitations to join news programs/interview programs "We'll do what's best for us" - Someone should hand him one of those "Country First" signs people have been waving all week.

to be followed by the candidate.

All of this "about me" crap is meaningless -- except for understanding their intent in government.

Corruption? Empire? Warmongering? Bankrupting the Treasury? Privatizing government?

Secret government? Universal single payer health care or keeping the insurance companies in play?

Interference with the right to free assembly/free speech? Increasing jailed populations?

Continuing the phoney War on Drugs? Torture? Spying on citizens?

More unregulated Capitalism moving the nation's assets/wealth from the many to the few?

Ending the patriarchal war on women and children -- ?

And the most important issue - Global Warming.

Calling off the war on nature: "Manifest Destiny" - "Man's Dominion Over Nature."

Those are patriarchal/religious concepts which are suicidal--!!

As far as those higher concepts go, I'd trust Jamie Leigh Curtis before I'd trust ANY Repug --

Thanks, Jamie!

19. There's an old joke about 'Moose Shit Pie'...
...basically the joke is about a guy trying to get out of being named the 'cook' for a bunch of lumberjacks, and could only get out of it if one the guys complained about his cooking (with the complainer being named the permanent cook)...after days of suffering through this, and with nobody daring to complain, the guy found a pile of freshly made, steaming 'moose shit', made a nice lattice crust for it and served it up...it looked good and the guys dove into it(not knowing what it really was)...only to exclaim after the first bite, 'Goddamn, Moose Shit Pie!....But good!'. Well, that's how I see this woman. She has baked up a fine, lattice-crusted, moose shit pie, and the lame-ass Republican Party insists that it's 'gooood'! At least some parts of the media have decided that moose shit pie, is moose shit pie. Now if we can only time this right - we don't want her run off before November - we'll be able to get this bunch of neocon-men (and women) out of our lives for a while.

My new name for the Repug VP Nominee: Sarah 'Moose Shit Pie' Palin.

Hmmmnnnn... Wasn't it Bill Clinton who everybody thought would be great to sit down at a bar and have a beer with because it was so easy to relate to him? Sarah Palin, went to two colleges in Hawaii, two colleges in Idaho, and one college in Alaska before graduating with a degree in political science AND journalism in 1987 from the University of Idaho. I think her accomplishments speak for themselves (unlike Mr. Obama). She'll be a great Vice President. P.S. I still love Jamie Lee too!

30. We have all lowered our standards...
None of us is perfect. But is there something wrong with wanting a little more perfection than we have in those we choose to lead us?

That more than anything is the lesson from John Edwards. Too many excuses. He is just human. Well so is Jamie Lee Curtis. So am I. And just as she cannot fathom anyone choosing her to lead us, neither can I fathom anyone choosing me to. But we are great motivators. To the disdain at times of those around us. People really don't like truth.

We choose our leaders by the whiteness of their teeth and don't pay attention to the lies that are uttered by the mouths that have the pretty white teeth.

We like the image. And we ignore the substance. Really we ignore the lack of substance.

Do we really want Ken and Barbie and their new pal Gidget in the White House?

32. I Disagree
I think it matters that our leaders understand the needs of average Americans. To me, relatability is a factor. It is not the only factor, but it is important. Ideally, empathy for working Americans should make a leader better - and stand up for the working class, not special interests.

We loved Bill Clinton with his "I feel your pain" and mocked Bush #41 for supposedly being startled by supermarket scanner.

Early in the campaign, I really didn't understand why Barack Obama was running for President now rather than waiting until he had more experience. One explanation I heard was that Michelle and Barack wanted to do it now, before they'd been in Washington so long as to have forgotten what it was like outside the beltway. They finished paying off their student loans within the past 10 years. They had to struggle to buy their house. I think that weighs on Obama and trust him to do the right thing for the middle class because of it.

The problem is that the Republicans are so skilled at presenting themselves as "like us" when they really aren't. The other problem is when empathy or perceived empathy is a substitute for wisdom rather than an enhancement of it.

48. Do want to relate to them or do we want them to relate to us?
Hollywood's wonderful at producing characters we think we can relate to. So is Washington DC. But that is different from having someone who can relate to us. If you want to find out how well the politicians will relate to you, try to find out how they treat the people they work with. Especially the people who work for them. Find out what kind of jokes they tell when they aren't in front of a microphone--or at least think they aren't.

From what I've been able to find on those lines, Palin is mean-spirited and vindictive--so she'll probably relate to people like that. I'm not mean-spirited, so I don't think she would relate to me.

P.S. When I ran the spell check, it flagged "Palin" and I hit the ignore button. I wish we could ignore Palin.

...a while ago, but Jamie Lee Curtis says it so much better. We were talking about how people voted for Bush because he seemed like someone they could have a beer with, and people love Palin because she seems like a regular mom. It's like Bill Mahr said last night: Why are Americans so narcissistic that they think their President (or VP) should be just like them?

unfortunately, this is another case of a woman who get promoted for the wrong reason, we've all seen it. the sad part will be when she fails it will reflect on ALL of US! it will be , "see, a woman just can't handle the job".....
