A little computer help?
I received an email from the Obama campaign to apply to be a campaign worker. I've completed all of the forms and now I'm trying to upload my resume. Here's the problem, one, I'm not the smartest guy in the world when it comes to computers, and two, every time I try to upload my resume it kicks it back saying... You must upload a PDF, DOC or TXT.

Right now I have it saved in MS Works Word Processor, and I'm completely stumped. It's always been simple for me, but now it's not working. One other problem, I'm on a different computer than I'm used to, and every time I've tried to send stuff on this computer I've had some problems.

Any help for the cause?

1. In works, save a TXT (Text) file type
That means .txt will be the last letters in the file name.

2. Can you save your Works doc as a Word doc (with the .doc appendage)?

3. You might have it saved in RTF (rich text format) that the host doesn't like.
Try saving it -as- a plain text (.txt) or document (.doc) file...
maybe.....?

4. Can't remember the exact file extension
for MS works, but of the three formats required (.pdf, .doc or .txt), Microsoft works can definitely save as .txt.

Open the file menu, go to Save As then somewhere should be a File Type option. Save as .txt then try to upload.

6. How to fix it.
Save the file by going to File> Save As...
In the dialog box, you will be given the option to give the file the name that you want to save it as. below this is a drop down menu. Select .doc or .txt extention (the rest is unimportant) and save your file. You then should be able to upload it.
If you need more help, feel free to pm me here.

I do this sort of stuff for a living for..... uhh 18 years next month.

Pasting your resume into Word. Save the file and upload that one. Or, just save it as a TXT file.

Maybe Works has a file extension their deal doesn't recognize.

10. Older Works Word Processor uses a different format than Word
I am not sure if you can but try "Save As" and see if DOC is one of the options. TXT ought to be if DOC is not.

You can download Microsoft Works 6–9 File Converter to change the file to a more standard one: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=BF41401E-70FA-465D-AE2E-CF44DBF05297&displaylang=en

11. works is a different file extension than they can read
Works is shipped with most windows machines and the file extension is .wps I believe

you have an option of what file type to save the file - this is the file extension
every file has filename.extension
you can turn the ability to see your extension - I would have to look up exactly where

BUT for now just save the file with a filename and dot and extension

There should be drop down box for the file type
Some times you have to put the filename and extension inside quotes to make sure you save it exactly the way you want

13. Simple. Open document in whatever it opens in...
Then click "file" in top left corner. In the drop down menu one option should be "save as" (not simply "save"). Click that. Then, in the dialogue box which appears, the LOWER window underneath the box should be labeled "save as type", with a drop down menu arrow just to the right of the window. Click that arrow and find the file type you want to save it as (in your case .doc or .txt) and select it. Make sure to note the location it is being saved to on your computer. Hit "save" and you are done. If you like you can rename the file in the upper window to avoid confusing it with the original. Something like "uploadversion.txt" or whatever works for me.

Hope that helps.

14. Thanks for the help everyone.
But so far, NOTHING has worked. Needless to say, this is somewhat frustrating. I've uploaded things before, I've sent my resume in the past without a problem, but for me, this is NOT WORKING.

I've tried the phone number for headquarters in Chicago and just get a michane. It is driving me insane and I've been at it all night.

Is there anyone out there who has a contact with the Obama campaign in CA? Please pm me a phone number if you have it for someone Ca.

Again, thanks to everyone who tried to help.
