Freepers heads to explode - Bush aides have visited Jimmy Carter Center re: post-presidency

http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/?loc=interstitialskip

<snip>

Asked what advice he might give President Bush on what to do after he leaves office, Carter (known as one of most successful "post-presidents" in recent history, but like Bush left office with his approval ratings very low), says that aides to Bush have come to his Carter Center to consult on that issue. "If the Bush administration has one noted achievement," he says, "it would be its benevolent contributions to Africa." Carter believes that Bush could play a great role in solving Africa's problems because of the president's "deep commitment" on those issues.

2. Poor W doesn't know what to do after the Presidency
He didn't know what to do before or during his Presidency so I guess it's only natural he have someone figure this out for him too.

4. I don't know about him in open territory, but it is out of the country and that has to be safer
than here. I'll bet in Africa, most of the people don't even know who he is. He could put on jeans with a Canadian flag patch on his ass and just be anybody.

7. So he's doing it because he wants to be popular again
Not because he has something that he really cares about.

Else why would they "consult" anyone? If you have something you care about...just do it!

10. How can a war criminal executive establish a successful post-presidency?
It shouldn't be possible. Even entertaining the notion should be unthinkable. The man is a war criminal for crying out loud.

You don't get to implement a torture policy one day and become something great and beneficial the next....you just don't.

the WH and future GWB Library, listened to them, and gave them a good answer. I love Carter more than ever. A class act.

Maybe something good will come of this.

But, I must remind everyone, of something that Bush said about two years ago - about the time all the Blackwater revelations exploded (I'm not positive about the timing?).

At some event he suggested a World Peace force and he emphasized Africans - with some emphasis on it being a job source for the continent. Of course, our own kids were dying off in Iraq and the Blackwater fill ins for many roles that were former military roles was outed (even through documentaries).

ALL I COULD THINK OF as Bush spoke - is this - he sees Africans as expendable.

And what was he doing talking about a world peace force - coming from him it must mean a worldwide Blackwater - meaning a CORPORATE MILITARY - so that our kids will only be a per cent of the dead. TO TAKE THE PLACE OF THE EVER HATED UNITED NATIONS - hated by Republicans.

Back to Carter. He built his retirement life and it was not about sitting back and playing video games and slapping people's back and rubbing their bald heads.

Sorry to involve Carter in the comparison.

Carter is good man - and was excluded from the Convention by the Barack DLC team so as not to offend AIPAC, imo.

Edit to add: I mean, the idea of them getting so worked up about something that their heads just blow up on their own. I didn't mean to advocate violence. (Just sayin'... I know how sometimes it's hard to read context into an internet post.)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/aug/30/usa.aids

A senior United Nations official has accused President George Bush of "doing damage to Africa" by cutting funding for condoms, a move which may jeopardise the successful fight against HIV/Aids in Uganda.
Stephen Lewis, the UN secretary general's special envoy for HIV/Aids in Africa, said US cuts in funding for condoms and an emphasis on promoting abstinence had contributed to a shortage of condoms in Uganda, one of the few African countries which has succeeded in reducing its infection rate.

http://www.sptimes.com/2003/10/12/Perspective/HIV_spreads_under_Bus.shtml

USAID is the single largest donor of condoms in the developing world, providing $75-million worth annually, or about a third of all donations. Yet, according to the PAI report, 16 poor countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East have been cut off from USAID condom shipments because their family planning groups are associated with the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which refuses to sign the antiabortion pledge.

16. "benevolent contributions" sounds innocent enough, but...
"benevolent" to whom? I think GWB has a "deep commitment" to trying to make a profit, even though he sucks at it.

I remember a few years ago some of us were upset because Andrew Young attended a GWB fundraiser here in Atlanta and gave $2000 to Shrubby's campaign. When asked about it, Young essentially said that it was the only way to get his attention. (Andrew Young runs a consulting agency aimed at helping to develop Africa called Good Works International.) Now that our Emperor has seeded the ground over there with some government money, he's ready for the profit taking.

19. The only activities Bush should be engaged in after leaving office:
1) Making license plates

2) Making small rocks out of big rocks

Post-presidency solved.
