6. Don't Count On It
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 08:12 AM by atreides1
Remember what Mukasey said about how just because a law is broken, doesn't mean a crime has been committed! Even if Abramoff has the goods I seriously doubt that Mukasey will authorize any investigations, much less prosecute anyone that Jack has the goods on!

Once again my thanks to Senator Feinstein for her clear judgement.

23. Exactly. Black Jack knows that, and is looking to lock-in a better deal, now.
Aside from the statute of limitations, I don't see what might stand in the way of prosecuting him for 20 or 30 other crimes he's committed, if that's what the next AG wants to do.

29. How do you get a better deal than a presidential pardon
and that done without spilling the beans though chances are whatever he says will amount to more obfuscation of the truth. Then again, perhaps a little "future fear" is as healthy as any cockroach conscience can possibly be. Wish I had a pic of a RAID spraycan.

7. He doesn't have anything on the dems - he would have went there first...
...did you ever see the clip of when he introduced Delay - he said something like, "when I grow up I want to be just like him". I think it was a Frontline report on pbs.

Abramoff hates the dems, if he had anything on any of them it would already be out there.

13. Rut Roh...
Methinks Hurrican Abramoff is about to make landfall again...and I suspect he's not too happy being the whipping boy of a wider ring of corruption. Ya gotta think he heard about Ralphie Reed's fundraiser and how he's walked from this scandal without much damage...and how others who were once his friends are now trashing him.

While the GOOPers obsess with Ayers and Greek Columns, the real scandals are starting to rise...and most of them have an (R) associated with them. Be it Don Young and Senator Tubes or Foley or the Dukestir...the scandals that took this party down in 2006 still lurk out there and the efforts of this regime to politicize the DOJ (that has created a big backlash within the legal community) may become a major issue in the weeks ahead.

19. I find the timing rather curious...as in a matter of inconvenience to those
currently involved in running for office? Perhaps he thinks he could get speedier action on his release? Maybe he has his book written and needs to get out for the book-signing tour? Logically, he wants to sing and be pardoned before the Big Guy leaves office.

I don't trust these guys any further than I can spit...and, that ain't far!

28. Sorry, But it aint gonna happen
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Wednesday recommended a reduction in jail time for the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff who became a crucial witness against lawmakers and Congressional aides.
Prosecutors asked federal judges in Washington and Florida to shave years off the sentence of Mr. Abramoff, citing his work in an investigation by the FBI that sent numerous people to prison and contributed to the Republican Party's loss of Congress.

Mr. Abramoff’s cooperation helped send to prison former Representative Bob Ney, a Republican, and former Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/28/washington/28abramoff.html?ref=us

----------------------------------

According to this piece in the Times it revolves around PAST cooperation rather than any
NEW revelations.

I don't see anything else coming out of this other than a deal which will insulate Mr. Abramoff
from a Democratic Administration who will bring back the rule of law with a new and
law abiding A.G.

Sorry, But I don't see anything here than more CYA :spank:

40. This is about protecting John McCain.
The new AG will need to scan all the files on all the information that Abramoff has provided and get the little guys who have not been prosecuted to fess up. That is how they will get the big ones. That is the only way they will get them. But they will get them if they want to. Sooner or later these crooks will cross the wrong person. That's what happens to criminals -- live by crime, die by crime.

35. If this is true, it's either pardon/commutation or "accident/suicide" for ol' Jack.
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 10:58 AM by tom_paine
This may not be true in whole or in part. It also might be a ploy, a dangerous one at that, to let the Bushies know he's tired of waiting around and they'd better make sure and get his ass off before they go.

Hard to say, but in either case, it is almost certain that, one way or another, this man will die before he can cough up anything substantial that might be traced to the Imperial Bushies or their inner court.

I suspect Jack knows this, and this is probably a ploy, if it's even true.

39. It's a fix. The prosecutor is asking for leniency with regard to
service of his sentence in exchange FOR THE INFORMATION HE HAS ALREADY GIVEN -- and, of course, to keep a Democratic administration from being able to pressure him in the future.
