I'm a big freakin' Redneck!!!
-I live in the south

-I drive a full-size pickup (although I also own a Prius)

-I chew Red Man

-I hunt all sorts of wild game (and I donate to Hunters For The Hungry)

-I fish

-I like NASCAR & Pro Wrestling

-I live in the mist of Falwell's FundieLand where nobody votes Democrat

-I (fuck I'm ashamed to admit this) voted for B*sh twice

So I'm pretty much you're typical southern Redneck...and guess what? I have an Obama sign in my front yard, and I'm doing all I can to fight the bullshit that's so prevalent around here and hopefully...just maybe...I can make just ONE person think for themselves and make the obvious best choice to lead this nation.

13. It started when I read the Bible...
And I said to myself, "shit, I never heard him preach about this." All I heard about in church was basically Republican talking points. You know, baby killin' homo-phobic bullshit. I read about a different Jesus...and the Old Testament has almost caused me to lose faith to be quite honest. So when I began to think for myself, the choice was clear. The sad news is, I have a good friend who was all about Obama and against the war and now he goes to Thomas Road Church and has McCain wallpaper on his My Space now. Fucking sad, brain-washing at it's best...or worst I should say.

40. Just remember this about...
The Old Testament and the draconian tribal laws that so many of those who you left behind seem to dote upon:

"I bring to you a new covenant"

That means the old covenant has been put aside. Along with the tribal laws and the injustices and brutality that comes with them. Remember: Patriotism is really the second-to-last refuge of the scoundrel. Leviticus is really the scoundrel's last refuge.

And a digression: My Episcopal priest is from down your way. He used to be a full-bore fundie, minister and all. Made man. Rolling in the aisles, speaking in tongues. The full 9 yards. Knew Jerry Fallwell real well, too. Then he came to a small realization about himself: He's gay. He's now an Epicopal priest. Amazing man. True Virginia Gentleman, looks like he was sent over from Central Casting to play an Episcopal Priest. And he knows the errors of the fundies intimately. And he's one of the finest, most moral and most ethical people I have ever known.

He says that Ol' Jerry was a con man. Didn't know a lick of theology and only the scripture fed to him by his piss boys. Jerry was all about political power.

72. The old testament is for conservatives.
The new testament is more for the religious liberal. I grew up religious then read the Bible from cover to cover as a young adult. Turned me off to organized religion and made me form one of my own. There is only one follower of my religion, me. Although I have had people tell me they would join it if I would start a church. But that would be organized religion and I don't believe in that. ;)

12. Hunters For The Hungry
Is a organization that I believe is state funded and local slaughter houses participate. All you have to do when you kill a deer is field dress it and drop it off at the local slaughter house and the meat is processed to help feed the poor here in VA. Part of your hunting license fee goes towards this and you have the option of adding like $2 extra (which I of course do). It's really a great thing especially when you see all the dead deer on the side of the highway.

There are more stereotypical rednecks around here than ones like me. But I like being here, cause I'll tell em' like it is, and I'll bust em' in the fucking mouth if they don't like it. Edited to add:

I just noticed your response on this above. Yeah, it's a shame that so many people push a version of Christianity that ignores so much of what Christ actually had to say -- as in the Sermon on the Mount.

You know why I think that is? Because it's EASY. If the only things God requires of you is that you aren't gay, and you don't have an abortion -- well, that's easy for most of us. Half of all people are MEN, and they'll never have to face having an abortion. And more than 90% of people are straight. So a person with these beliefs can huff and puff and pride himself on his Christianity, when he never could have an abortion and he was never tempted to be gay.

It's a lot harder to be Christian when it means turning the other cheek instead of fighting, and sharing everything you have with the poor. It's a hell of a lot harder.

48. Redneck
I grew up with Rednecks and never even knew it was a derogatory word until I moved up to the DC area. My high school was pretty typical Texas school...Preppies, Stoners, 'necks, jocks.

Rednecks were usually just the kids from the rural areas. They liked country music, wore boots, wranglers and cowboy hats. They were usually pretty conservative but sometimes not. Most of them knew how to drive LONG before the rest of us touched a motor vehicle. One of my buddies, a 'neck I'd known since 3rd grade, taught me how to drive stick.

I was surprised when I found out the word often had a very negative meaning among Democrats/Liberals.

67. Hey Stump, I'm another southern redneck down here in Alabama.
Welcome aboard. Been to a few NASCAR races, drive a Ford truck, and love college football. My 89-year-old mother and I are supporting Obama, and my sisters are police-state loving fascists repukes. I love the south, but it can be hell down here at times. I may be stupid, but I'm not crazy. Obama is the only hope we have to fix this fucking mess.

69. Making one person think succeeds because once the light comes on,
they become determined to make others think. Good work and good luck.

73. I am married to a big freakin' Redneck
and he's voting for Obama too!!!

We live in Central CA (very conservative area).

My husband voted for Bush (I know, I know... but I love him anyway). He is a hunter, drives a truck, etc. etc. But he will not support republiCONS anymore. He says you would have to be an idiot or a billionaire to support these criminals.

Congratulations Stump, it takes a REAL MAN to learn from his mistakes and change. Welcome!!

75. The second Bush vote is damning.
I will never forgive those people. The lies were exposed, ... Bush was pushing the constitution through the shredder when you cast a vote for him.

That is simply unforgivable. Sorry.

76. Welcome! From a fellow southerner!
I'm over in Nashville, TN. Well, actually, I've got a place right outside of Nashville in a little "bedroom community", about 10 minutes away. I've go my own 20 acres of woods and lots of peace and quiet.

But we'll turn the South Blue, yet! Bring back the Yellow Dog Democrats!
