My LTTE on the Edwards/McCain double standard for affairs gets printed
DOUBLE STANDARD

After it was recently disclosed that former presidential candidate John Edwards had cheated on his ailing wife, Elizabeth, the consensus in the media was that Edwards’ political career was finished and that he was a terrible person who was unfit to hold high office. Curiously, the media has been silent on if John McCain is also unfit to hold high office. McCain admitted to cheating on his ailing first wife multiple times before dumping her for a much younger and wealthier woman. Does the fact that McCain is a Republican excuse his multiple affairs? Or, does Edwards being a Democrat mean his one affair is much worse and career-ending ? I certainly see a huge double standard in the media, as I have yet to hear any major pundit call for McCain to drop out of the presidential race or resign his senate seat or that his career is finished.

3. McCain would use POW as an excuse if he treated his wives like Henry VIII
you know, had them beheaded!

10. You're welcome - I'm half tempted
to write-in a mock response beating the POW dead horse to death since it is an anonymous forum.

Yes, it does.

(Nice letter by the way.)

It's a curious thing about Republicans. Despite the existence of so-called "values voters", I think there's a long-standing belief that instead of sharing things with the poor and less fortunate that Republicans "look out for number one." It's a free-market fundamentalist Randian sort of religion that seems to excuse all sorts of thefts and indiscretions in the lusty pursuit of selfishness. McCain simply saw a better deal and traded up for it. That's what Republicans do. Never mind all those squishy things like conscience, hurt feelings, and common decency. That's all wimpy Democrats stuff.

Meanwhile, Democrats who wear their righteousness on their sleeves inevitably set themselves up for a fall when it turns out that some of them are just as lustful, power-hungry, egotistical, and otherwise flawed as everyone else.

9. Well, look at what happened
when you compare David Vitter seeing a hooker and Eliot Spitzer seeing one.

Within 48 hours of the scandal breaking, NY Republicans are threatening impeachment of Spitzer, who is forced to resign in shame.

Vitter gets a standing ovation from his Republican colleagues when he defiantly returns to the Senate.

12. IMHO this is the best example of Republican Double Standards for their own members...
It is proof that the law enforcement/prosecution functions of government have been fine tuned to zoom in on Democrats since Bush took office.
