Offshore Drilling Ad Campaign Alert
I don't remember exactly who sponsored the ad (some oil or gas company front I'm sure) but I was listening to one of my local country stations this morning and heard an ad advocating for more offshore drilling and the announcer claimed that government reports indicate that that we have enough domestic oil to power our cars and heat our homes for the next 60 years. Anybody else heard an ad like this where you live?
:wtf:

1. Here is what Sierra Club has to say about the Drilling hype

The Drill of It All
Did you know that oil companies are already sitting on 68 million acres of leases that they aren't even drilling? Which kind of makes you wonder: Why are Big Oil and its allies suddenly desperate to get their hands on the last few places that are still protected -- our natural treasures, wildlife refuges, and pristine coastlines? They wouldn't use the concerns caused by high gas prices as an excuse to grab it ALL, would they?

Check out our map showing how much of our country Big Oil has already got and spread the word by forwarding it to friends who agree: Enough is enough.

So far, one woman has stood up to Big Oil. Let's thank Speaker Pelosi for keeping a cool head and holding out for real solutions

2. I totally do NOT want more drilling myself
The majority of the public, however, seem to be getting snookered by McSame, big oil, and the GOP propoganda machine. Hopefully, Obama and other advocacy groups will eventually be able to pull off the curtain and shine bright light on several "inconvenient truths" and realities about the push for offshore drilling and demonstrate how offshore drilling is likely to do little more than leave our environment further despoiled and leave the rest of us little better off than we are now in terms of gas prices.

3. When even that old Swift Boat Liar T Boone Pickens
... says we can’t drill our way out of this mess -- heavily invested in wind, and thus greed-motivated though he may be -- I am compelled to agree.

Especially when I see that the United States produces 2% of the world’s oil supply but consumes 24%. No amount of oil remaining to be discovered in the OCS or ANWR can change that equation.

We can either use less oil, or we can keep fighting wars over it until it’s all gone.
