News media objective in presidential race?
Posted: 02:20 PM ET

FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

John McCain is whining about the media — again. His campaign manager, Rick Davis, wants to meet with the president of NBC News to protest the network’s coverage… saying it’s abandoning “non-partisan coverage” of the presidential race.

McCain’s not happy with what NBC’s Andrea Mitchell said on “Meet the Press” yesterday, when she questioned whether McCain may have known about some of the questions at the faith forum Saturday night ahead of time. John McCain was supposed to be held in a so-called “cone of silence” during Barack Obama’s interview, which happened first. But it turns out McCain was in his motorcade on the way to Rick Warren’s church during the interview.

McCain’s campaign insists the Arizona Senator didn’t hear the broadcast of the event in the car and didn’t hear any questions. They say the insinuation from Obama’s camp that McCain cheated is outrageous and they’re going after Andrea Mitchell for “simply repeating Obama campaign talking points”.

This isn’t the first time McCain has been critical of the media’s coverage of the race. The campaign recently put out a video spoofing how much the media love Obama.

A recent Pew Poll found 48% of those surveyed say they’re hearing too much about Barack Obama, compared to 26% who feel the same way about John McCain. But, a media study that came out last month found that NBC, ABC, and CBS were tougher on Obama than they were on McCain during the first six weeks of the general election campaign.

Here’s my question to you: How would you rate the objectivity of the news media in covering the presidential race?

Tune in to the Situation Room at 4pm to see if Jack reads your answer on air.

And, we love to know where you’re writing from, so please include your city and state with your comment.

1. Andrea Mitchell whores for the Republicans all day long every day.
McCaint is never happy with anything. He's such an ungrateful sniveling little weasel.

4. Pot Asks If Kettle Is Black...
While I get a kick out of Jack...I hope to be such a good crummedgeon when I get to his age...is he really asking a serious question or just looking for things to use to bash competitors?

Chicken Noodle Nuze is one of the worst in playing "holier than thou"...running tons of stories either about morality or with some "moral" overtones, giving the religious right a far greater voice than they merit and attempting to use this association as some kinda "cross" to hide behind as they attempt to pander to this audience...and to what affect?

Seems like Warren all but lives in a Chicken Noodle Nuze studio these days...and they can't run enough of the snippets of this "debate" (which was more like a job application)...it's what I call "Purpose Driven Coverage".

5. here's what I wrote
From the independent studies done, it's clear that the media has been biased against Obama and for McCain. I think this is also obvious by the way the media tip toes around issues such as McCain's infidelity, questions about Cindy's unwillingness to share her tax returns, McCain's unwillingness to release his military records, the way the media has edited out McCain's errors in TV interviews repeatedly (and not cleaning up kind of editing, but rather changing the intent of what he said so that he answered the questions correctly), etc. The media jumps onn every thing Obama does and what it could mean, and then leaves these wide gaps when it comes to McCain. No one in the media talks about his connections with Keating 5 scandal, the jet rides he didn't claim that came from his lobbyist female friend, the property taxes he "forgot" to pay on one of his california properties, the mis-steps, the gaffes, the mis-leading statements re his policies (the Ohio DHL scandal that he mislead that woman about), his anti-union stances, the fact that he passes himself off as one of "us" but is worth 100s o millions of dollars, and then portrays Obama as an elitist and the media is mum when they know better, etc...It's clear that the TV media is biased. The corporate agenda/motive is there for it as well.

It's a real shame that just when one reporter tries to report a real question, the McCain campaign insists on meeting with the network. Is the network used to such demands? Why does the McCain camp expect such obedience? As Americans, we all understand that without a free press, we have no democracy. We have become a joke internationally due to the news coverage we do not get here.

McCain really shouldn't expect to have his ads replayed for free from the media and then his attacks used as legitimate questions even after they have been factually debunked. But that is what goes on and passes for "news" these days in the ratings game.

it's a shame for the American people, who deserve to be told the truth, so they can judge accurately for themselves which candidate is right for them.
