Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (R) and US President George W. Bush embrace as they depart after a joint press conference in Sao Paulo. Bush on Friday denied turning his back on Latin America, where demonstrations and violent protests rocked the start of his goodwill tour.(AFP/Jim Watson)

Smirky says he is buying ethanol from Brazil to somehow promote alternative fuels here and abroad. Some say that buying the Brazilian ethanol controls how much ethanol they produce (and therefore limits it). Since Smirky is an oil man through and through, I tend to believe the latter.
