Senator Norm Coleman

http://wonkette.com

Senator Norm Coleman Didn’t Pay Utility Bills At Tragic HovelIt is common knowledge around D.C. that Hobo King Norm Coleman sleeps in a drawer and gives hand jobs for lunch money. But NOW it turns out that he also failed for a whole year to pay the utilities on the 6-cubic-foot basement dungeon he rents from some pal of his. He is truly the most corrupt legislator invented since, who is it, that guy with the astonishing head-merkin.

Here is the deal with your dirty senator Coleman: He rents a wee room from some lobbyist friend, and once he skipped rent for a few months, and apparently didn’t pay a single cent to keep the lights on in his depressing little box for a year, and also he paid his friend in used furniture once.

Norm Coleman is an emotionally deranged homeless man who should never leave his box without strict instructions pinned to his jacket lapel.

Coleman defends D.C. lease

14. From campus radical Hippie to "The Man"

http://www.citypages.com/2007-09-05/news/war-torn
Ironically, Coleman first rose to prominence as a radical antiwar protester during the Vietnam War on the campus of Hofstra University. Now, the notoriously nimble politician—who successfully switched from the DFL to the GOP in 1996—faces the prospect of having his political career upended by another unpopular war.

"I wonder how, on a personal level, Norman deals with the fact that 40 years ago he was the leading student antiwar activist on all of Long Island, and now there are war protesters demonstrating at his office, at his house, and wherever he speaks," says Norm Kent, who attended Hofstra with Coleman. "I wonder how he integrates that into his being, his essence, his soul."

Everyone called him Norman. The Brooklyn-born kid with the rail-thin physique and scraggly hair that extended halfway down his back was a striking presence at Hofstra University in the late '60s and early '70s. Carting a bullhorn around campus, he'd regularly lecture students about the immorality of the Nixon administration and the Vietnam War. He was the Abbie Hoffman of the sleepy Long Island commuter college.

Lots, lots more. Four pages at the above link. What a hypocritical dick.

24. amazing!
from wikipedia:

Coleman's politics have changed dramatically throughout his political career. In college, Coleman was a liberal Democrat and was actively involved in the anti-war movement of the early 1970s. He ran for student senate and opined in the school newspaper that his fellow students should vote for him because he knew that "these conservative kids don't fuck or get high like we do (purity, you know)... Already the cries of motherhood, apple pie, and Jim Buckley reverberate through the halls of the Student Center. Everyone watch out, the 1950s bobby-sox generation is about to take over."<5>

He was once suspended from Hofstra University on New York City's Long Island for participating in a sit-in protest against student exclusion from the University faculty club.

When first elected as mayor of St. Paul in 1993, Coleman was a member of the DFL and considered left-of-center politically; but he gradually shifted to much more conservative positions on many issues during his tenure.

While running for mayor in 1993, Coleman wrote in a letter to the City Convention Delegates: "I have never sought any other political office. I have no other ambition other than to be mayor." He goes on in the same letter to say:

"I am a lifelong Democrat. Some accuse me of being the fiscal conservative in this race — I plead guilty! I'm not afraid to be tight with your tax dollars.

Yet, my fiscal conservatism does not mean I am any less progressive in my Democratic ideals. From Bobby Kennedy to George McGovern to Warren Spannaus to Hubert Humphrey to Walter Mondale — my commitment to the great values of our party has remained solid."

Couldn't we find better ways of lampooning an easy target like Coleman without resorting to anti-homeless and anti-poor jokes?

When the left is acting like this, how can we wonder why poverty is not even an issue of discussion in America anymore?
