McCain suggests military-style invasion modeled on the surge to control inner city crime.»

Today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) spoke to the National Urban League, a group “devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream.” When an audience member asked him how he planned to reduce urban crime, McCain praised Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s efforts in New York Cirty before invoking the military’s tactics in Iraq as the model for crime-fighting:

MCCAIN: And some of those tactics — you mention the war in Iraq — are like that we use in the military. You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control. And you provide them with a stable environment and then they cooperate with law enforcement, etc, etc.

4. What the hell is wrong with him?
Isn't this the reason we DON'T use the military domestically?

"Idiot" is right.

5. McInsane is lucky he didn't try to pull that B.S. in D.C..
He'd have been run out of town.

The MPD has been testing various "military style" tactics here for years and the minority communities have borne the brunt of the fallout from their experimentation. I don't know if the "Don't Snitch" movement began in D.C., but it's certainly entrenched now.

Why is it that the Republic answer to social issues always involves the removal of civil rights protections, escalating violence and incarceration?

8. I bet that went over great with the Urban League
:sarcasm:

When will Republicans ever notice that jobs, jobs, jobs are what lowers crime? I noticed it in some of our gang neighborhoods...when Bush I was in gang activity was up, when Clinton was in gang activity was down (because they were all working or at trade school on pell grants), now it's back up as is bank robberys because of NO JOBS...

9. And just like in Iraq...
innocent children will be murdered and the disgruntled will falsely frame others whose houses will be stormed and who may be killed and to get information, Americans can be tortured, and just who would be going in to do this job?

Fuck the republican party. They have been the enemies of the American people.

12. no shit?
not a word about jobs, education? and not a word about how many innocent iraqis have been murdered in iraq? this guy gets scarier by the minute? the fucking media will have people thinking this is a good idea.

for a fraction of what this plan would cost we could improve the quality of life for the poor in inner cities, give them the education that would allow them to go even further, and end so much suffering. but mccain prefers to keep feeding the military/industrial beast with taxpayer and/or borrowed money to further victimize them. and just as we are growing terrorists over there, with this plan we will soon be growing them here. believe me little kids in poor neighborhoods in los angeles are not being brought up being told that the police are their friends. because reality is, the police are not their friends. this could only make matters much, much worse.

13. Whats he gonna do?
Whats McBush going to do? Is is planning on surrounding Chicago and order women and children out and then go house to house and door to door. McBush is a fricken jarhead. He has to screw that silly little cap he wears to his empty head like one turns the lid on a jar.

Can't imagine that exactly went over well with them.

Maybe at a Klan meeting, though.
