McCain suggests military-style invasion modeled on the surge to control inner city crime.

Today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) spoke to the National Urban League, a group “devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream.” When an audience member asked him how he planned to reduce urban crime, McCain praised Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s efforts in New York Cirty before invoking the military’s tactics in Iraq as the model for crime-fighting:

MCCAIN: And some of those tactics — you mention the war in Iraq — are like that we use in the military. You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control. And you provide them with a stable environment and then they cooperate with law enforcement, etc, etc.

(end snip)

He just can't get enough of surging, can he? He is surgtastic! (oh, plus you have to pay the insurgents enough to leave you alone.)

3. The McCain campaign is using "The Surge©" as it's main talking point. Expect him to
work it into everything, no matter how irrelevant it is to the subject at hand. It's the closest thing he has to a success to point to, and it's not even a success. Just a mild propaganda victory. It's pathetic.

4. Cops on the Streets
One of the better programs from the 90's. Although it wasn't militaristic like this McLooniness.

Anyways, Bush cut the program.

6. The mere idea of this "can" being kicked down the street is deeply disturbing.
I shudder to think of the implications.

The DC police have already pulled some of this bs.

KnR, sadly...

7. They are already using "checkpoints" here in D. C.
THere were too many violent things going on in certain neighborhoods, so they took to using checkpoints to be sure only the residents could pass.
