What's Happening to Conservative Websites?
vanity | 3-7-07 | Bob J

Posted on 03/07/2007 6:57:43 PM PST by Bob J

I have diligently watched the rise in size and influence of conservative websites, including Free Republic, over the last 7-8 years. I have been shocked and concerned over the drop in traffic at the most popular ones over the last year or so. There was good growth up until 2006 but since then there has been a steady downtrend that would crash any other market.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? I'm out of explanations. The deficiencies in alexa.com are noted, but even if the numbers aren't accurate you're still comparing off numbers to off numbers so the decline is consistent.

other than I'd be surprised if you're wrong, but I have noticed many new Undergrounders before the '06 elections, and after.

the conservative movement in the country has run out of steam. A long need correction leftwards (to the TRUE CENTER) is underway as we speak.

9. They're losing momentum and focus
They've been in control of the country for so long and gotten so few of what they've wanted actually done and are losing heart. That and the walloping this last November certainly didn't help them at all.

...these people actually wonder why conservative Web sites are losing traffic?

Do these people get out in public at all--and talk with real people--or do they
just live on their conservative messageboards---like a bunch of rats feeding on
their own feces?

In case they haven't noticed, Bush and his ilk have DESTROYED the conservative
movement. Everyone equates conservatism with Bush and the neocon faction of
the party.

The neocon experiment is a failed joke that has left only the nutjobs, the psychopaths
and the morons holding the conservative banner.

Are these people really that oblivious and ignorant?

Seriously, I believe that many of the scum bags attracted to the GOP
want to be on the side that's winning.
They appear to be finding something else to do.

And a mass murderer.
And a warmonger.
And a traitor.

What else he is,
beyond a drunken coke-whore of an ignoramus,
I can't say.
It's really too horrible to mention.

20. Voting against your best interests is one thing.
A 6 year defense of organized crime has to dull one's interests in continuing the effort at some point.

22. Andrew Sullivan
I've been checking his blog daily for a few years now and it's clear his opinion of the current administration has gone from awestruck, to distaste, to outright disgust. I think his odyssey is typical of many sentient republicans. The non-sentient faction is just that, and will never see the light.

I went over to the other side to check out that thread. I was struck by the difference between there and here. I'm not talking about politics, just the way each site looks.

Thank God we have whoever is responsible for the layout of DU. I think DU is cool and has a lively, upbeat look to it. Freeperville is so damn sterile looking. It just couldn't be any more dull. I'd like to raise a toast our web designer(s).

23. In the last year or so, many Republican voters have realized their party and "movement" has
"hit the wall". The NOV 06 elections only made that very clear but Katrina was already making it evident what a failure Republican government has been.

It's natural that people should lose some of their enthusiasm for hearing the same old crap spewed out of Limbaugh and Fox and fr.com.

Of course many of these people would never admit it talking to you, or even admit it to themselves, but somehow, mysteriously, they just don't have that old enthusiasm anymore. Wonder where it went?

24. It's quite simple, they all have the same word for word talking point each day
so you have 2000 sites exactly the same, you only need to read one a day, to read one is to read them all
