I'm careful in using third reich references about what's happening in this country. I had family that "dissapeared" in the late 30's and were victims of the holocoust and hear first hand stories of Russian progroms where towns were pillaged on a whim. We haven't reached that point.

The Repugnicans game is to play identity cards...try to make their target audience feel oppressed and they play that for votes. Be it gun owners (Democrats will take away your guns), fundies (gays will break up your marriage and force anal sex on you and then force you to have an abortion), racists (blacks are gonna take all your money and women) and middle-aged white males (Democrats are gonna take all your money and women and give it to gays, illegal Mexicans and blacks)...it's all fear, it's all simplified demonization. It's more Orwellian than Goebbels.

It's been political expediency driven by greed and privilidge that fuels the modern GOOP engine. targeting various groups, mostly whites, to revise history and blame all problems on "libruls" and thus Democrats. Without Vietnam and then with lessening of racial tensions, many of my generation turned off on politics allowing the GOOP to build their messages for years with little to no response. The game worked well as long as they remained a minority in Congress and then in the 90's as the "opposition"...all that went to hell after the '00 "election" and then it was put up or shut up time and we got to finally see how a government that hated the concept of governing would operate.

This is not to say that the US RW is explicitly National Socialist
but the US RW has a history of sympathy with National Socialism and
in the case of the Bush family a history of collaboration with the
Hitler regime. The Bush family history has yet to be recognized and
repudiated by Prescott Bush's ancestors. In fact they seem to follow
Prescott Bush's ideological leanings in perfect lock step.
