Neocon spin on VA mess - Clinton did it too
On my way home from work, I happened to tune into to Hammity for a few minutes. Wouldn't you know, he's trying to play the "Clinton did it too" card regarding the VA hospital situation! Going on and on saying "well you know, this has been going on for awhile, Clinton should have done something about it". Bullshit. It's YOUR president who cut funding for veterans, asshole! It's YOUR president who sent thousands of soldiers to their deaths, and wounded TENS of thousands more with your illegal war. BUSH is the one who flooded these hospitals with more than what they could possibly handle, while at the same time cutting their funding!

2. Really... clinton did it too...
except that I don't remember 10s of thousands (maybe 100s of thousands) of wounded vets coming home to Walter Reed for surgery to try to repair their missing pieces of skulls and missing arms and legs and eyes.

So maybe the army didn't need building 18 then, or any of the other facilities now overflowing with wounded vets.

I'm pretty sure that the dozens wounded in the Clinton era got top notch health care and weren't shuttled around. Not to mention that the post operative care wasn't outsourced to a former Halliburton executive who's last great accomplishment was to be paid millions of dollars to shuttle ice around the country and NOT deliver it to Katrina victims.

Ok,Veterans-critique my ltte for factual errors

The latest revelations about the poor treatment our wounded soldiers and veterans get are reprehensible. It's hard to tell where to start to fix the system,as it has been allowed to decay for so long.Underfunding, private contractors, and low-balling disability ratings have all contributed to the decline in care.I feel it is important to point out one common denominator in all this. The Veteran's Administration budget is funded by Congress.Up until two months ago,The Congress had been led by the Republican Party for the last 12 years. Our senators Hutchison and Cornyn have both been highlighted by veterans groups(namely IAVA and DAV)as voting against the interests of Veterans, receiving respective grades of D+ and D-.Joe Barton did a little better-he received a "C".These elected representatives have not had our veterans' best interests at heart, and the results are finally being dealt with. Those of you Republicans who wear your patriotism on your sleeve-this is how you support our troops?

6. That the VA has been underfunded for a generation is a fact

13. Here is something for anyone who can't spell google and spews lies...
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Clinton plans a $1.5 billion increase in spending for the nation's veterans, much of it aimed at improving health care services, a senior congressional Democrat said Saturday.

Rep. Lane Evans, D-Ill., said the administration's proposed veterans spending in fiscal 2001 represents ``the largest VA (Veterans Affairs) increase requested by any administration.''

Administration officials declined comment Saturday.

Evans, the senior Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said the administration will request $46 billion for veterans' benefits and services. That includes a request for a $1.5 billion increase in spending authority, much of it targeted at expanding health care services, Evans said.
