Home of Congressional candidate Darcy Burner destroyed by fire
Darcy Burner came awfully close to beating Dave Reichert (R - Evil) in the WA-8th in 2006. She's running again in 2008.

The home of Democratic congressional candidate Darcy Burner near Carnation was seriously damaged in a fire Tuesday morning, her campaign spokesman said. Burner, her husband, Mike, their 5-year-old son, Henry, and the family dog all escaped safely, spokesman Sandeep Kaushik said.

The fire broke out about 7:30 a.m. in the home at 3630 W. Ames Lake Dr. N.E. after the family got up for the day, Kaushik said Darcy Burner told him. He did not know the cause. The house, which is in unincorporated King County, was heavily damaged.

Burner, 37, is challenging incumbent Republican Dave Reichert in the Eighth Congressional District, in eastern King and Pierce counties. Reichert, a former King County sheriff, defeated Burner by three percentage points in 2006 to win election to his second term in the U.S. House.

2. So glad she and her family got out safely
Running for office against GOPers such as Reichert is stressful enough without having this hardship piled on too.

3. SharonRB and I went to her fundraiser at the TBA conference this year
She had an event at the conference's hotel. As I recall she' Harvard educated and worked at Microsoft. She quit to run for Congress. She's one of the new Progressive Dems running and she was endorsed by our newest Congressional Rep. Donna Edwards (Edwards just won a special election here in Maryland and took her seat last week).

I'm glad she's safe. I really liked her and what she had to say.

4. I like her too...I'm glad she's running again.
I plan on volunteering for her campaign this fall. I actually live in the 7th, but with Jim McDermott as my rep  I can afford to help with a campaign that can use it.

5. I know what you mean, on both accounts
She really seemed to have her head on straight and, I felt, she was running for all the right reasons. She wants to do the right thing.

When I lived in Kansas I worked on campaigns in Missouri and other districts. The district I was in was very blue and had a well-oiled GOTV team. I went to the areas where I thought I could make the most difference and volunteered there. On election day I worked with the local GOTV people to get as many people to the polls as possible.
