Time well spent.

Interviewer is Mark Molaro. The following is from the link above:

In-depth interview with internationally renowned author, journalist and syndicated columnist Naomi Klein on her new book “The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism”. Klein is best known for her book from the year 2000, the international bestseller “No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies”. It was called “A Movement Bible” by the New York Times referring to its incredible impact on the anti-globalization movement.

In this extraordinary interview, Klein discusses the key ideas behind her concept of The Shock Doctrine and its importance as an alternate economic, social and political history of the last thirty years. She describes how the free market ideas of economist Milton Friedman and the Chicago School fostered the impact of shock from the 1970s Pinochet regime in Chile to the Bush administration today.

1. First recommendation and kick? Shameful.
I'm not reading anything in depth right now; I'm just skimming.

This is disgraceful that no one has kicked or recommended this yet.

4. She was on Tavis Smiley the other night.
For all of 5 minutes, MAYBE 10.

Thanks for the link.

5. The most important part of what she said to me
was bipartisan complicity as shown after the 2006 elections. People have had too much faith in the democratic process of just changing party control vs. being more issue oriented and organizing around issues, not just party change.

14. agree and she said we need to focus on "Policy Issues" instead of "Personality"
and that Election '06 taught us that when we finally got our Democrats in...and it didn't work out quite the way we though it would.

She's telling us to "re-group" and FOCUS...on POLICY and get over a Dem President "SAVING US" from all the bad policies that have gone before to undermine all our social and safety nets that Americans want to keep!

It was an excellent watch...because Naomi is so quiet and thoughful ...yet lays out what we've been through and what we can expect so clearly and thoughtfully.

It was good...at least for "me" to listen to...

13. You know ...this is an Excellent Listen! She's very calming in her views and makes
much sense that calling Bush Era "Fashist" isn't what we need to do. She says when you "say you live under Fascism...it takes the energy out of you." She thinks we need to stay strong and fight...because we aren't into "Fasism, yet" and we can delay it if we stand up for our rights.

She goes through Friedman Econimics and the New Deal...she makes connections in such a quiet and "soothing way" that make so much SENSE...just because she is so "low key" about how our Society here in America has been through "cycles."

I actually get from her a great feeling of HOPE for the FUTURE with what WE cand do with it! This isn't a "downer listen" it really is about logically going through were America has been...and how we dig ourselves out of it.

Thanks so much for the post. I had to work...so delayed the watch but it was well worth the watch. BTW...there's some other interviews on that site that many DU'ers would be interested in. "Linguistics" and that interview tying "Language in with Anthropology" in an interview with a Scientist who is trying to "save the last languages on earth" and tie it into the other Scientific Disciplines is a good listen also. It's after Naomi on the site.

I've bookmarked that site because I think upcoming Interviews could be as interesting as what we USED TO GET on NPR before Reagan and Bushies took it over and all we get is Corporate or Pentagon Crap.

It's a good show with an excellent Canadian Interviewer.

16. Skip the first few minutes with terrible war scences and get to the basic interview...
I know the opening shots would turn off many DU "Sensitives" like me with the terrible scenes. It goes on to a long interview with just Naomi and the interviewer...it's not about horrible pictures...you just have to forward through for a few minutes.

I hate to tell folks to do this...but the war pictures are ever present in many DU'ers minds and they really don't show up again...it's the interview with Naomi that's the rest of it and worth the watch for the important views she has. just saying for those who think it's about "torture or something" from the opening shots. It isn't...it's about Economics and why we are where we are today in this "cycle."
