The local fishwrap printed my letter today. I sent it in over a week ago so I had just about given up hope.

Somehow the Bush administration’s vetting process failed to detect that Scott McClellan’s conscience was only comatose, not dead.
How surprised they must have been when McClellan violated the omertà. But to prove that he is not driven by venal concerns, I call upon McClellan to do the right thing and donate all proceeds from his book to Iraq war veterans’ organizations.
Others have profited as well. Clearly many members of the media were either lazy and incompetent hacks who couldn’t be bothered to check facts, or they were willing accomplices of the administration. Either way, they should be shown the door. I call upon The Register-Guard to do the right thing and cancel the contracts of all pundits who were cheerleaders or apologists for the Iraq occupation.
We elect our representatives and senators to exercise their constitutional responsibilities to act as checks and balances to the executive branch. Not to be toadies who wait for their marching orders from Karl Rove.
Gordon Smith has totally failed the people of Oregon by asking no questions before the Iraq invasion, an occupation which has cost the lives of over a hundred Oregonians. Nor did he do anything to prevent Bush cronies from being awarded no-bid, no-oversight contracts that have resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars of waste, fraud and theft.
I call upon Smith to do the right thing and immediately resign from the Senate.
