Lesbian couple tossed from Major League Baseball game
Source: PageOneQ

Sirbrina Guerrero says she was approached at a baseball game and told to stop kissing her girlfriend after a woman complained to staff at Seattle's Safeco Field that they were "groping and making out."

Guerrero was told by a seating host that the woman didn't want to explain to her son why two women were kissing, she said to KOMO 4 TV, but she refused to give in.

"If you want to kick me out, you're going to have to," she told the host. After the exchange, Guerrero took pictures of heterosexual couples kissing that were not targeted by staff.

44. That's creepy and sexist
Not all males act like voyeuristic little boys. "I" wouldn't complain, because I tend to mind my own business. It would not have anything to do with an adolescent fantasy that supposes any 2 lesbians are hot to put on a show for immature males. That image of lesbians is a meme designed to dehumanize them by reducing their love-life to exploitation and entertainment.

I don't know what these women were doing but it's quite believable that a homophobe of either gender could have narked on them.

If there was "tit-in-hand", they were out of line. If it was a minor display of affection, they were being harassed. And the usher should have passed the complaint on to security.

49. Hey I'm not condoning or supporting this type of behavior
But I'm not gonna get horrified at it either. I have a son and a son in law. At age 25 they were both on the police force. I can almost guarantee you how they would've reacted. And it wouldn't have been gentlemanly. To his credit my son has grown up a lot since those days (He's now 42). My son in law, sadly, has not.

Howard Stern has a lot of listeners. They are primarily males in the 18-34 demographic.

However we've all acted like voyeuristic little boys on occasion. You've never been to a bachelor party or a retirement get together where strippers were present?

Nor am I naive. I'm actually rather worldly and little "horrifies" me.

Disgust and boredom, now those are problems...

The structure of your post was open-ended, but I have to wonder how you would responded had my response been, "Wayne go, man, you tell 'em!".

Your 1st post in this thread would have been more effective had you pointed out that this behavior exists and why it's deplorable.

3. As often happens, there's more to the story
From the Seattle P-I:
http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/thebigblog/archives/139956.asp

... Soon after this post was first published, I got an e-mail from Mariners spokeswoman Rebecca Hale and gave her a call. Hale had read the post and the comments and wanted to respond.

"We would like folks to know that we're treating these complaints and concerns very seriously," Hale said. "We've definitely not got a policy that states that if you're gay, you can't kiss at Safeco Field. Our policy is, if your behavior is inappropriate in a public setting, we are going to proactively intervene."

That policy is not selective, Hale said. Mariners staff have intervened twice in the last month or so in inappropriate displays from heterosexual couples -- one in a Terrace Club lounge and another in a restroom.

Hale clarified that Monday's incident, now under investigation, never involved security. The women were not removed from the game and it was a seating host -- one of the people in the green jackets -- who addressed a complaint from a guest that two women were "groping and making out."

6. Thank you.
I was about to post the same thing, and plenty of heterosexual couples who go into "groping territory" are asked to stop, leave, whatever too.

I see nothing different about this "incident".

"if your behavior is inappropriate in a public setting, we are going to proactively intervene."

Pretty much commonplace anywhere; the same rules apply for everybody. Even sports figures, such as the MN Vikings who, a couple summers ago, got rowdy and raunchy on a boat and the police had been called several times by people who could hear it all from some distance away... http://www.google.com/search?q=vikings+boat+party+arrest+2005&btnG=Search

You can watch the game on the motel's TV--in between "innings."

22. Kissing and groping are very different matters
There is a hetero couple that goes to my community center pool that irritate me with their inability to go more than a minute without groping each other. They do it in the pool, or on the chairs next to the pool. There are families there, and I do wish the lifeguards would tell them to knock it off. I've been tempted to tell them to get a room somewhere.

But kissing is kissing, and I'm not offended by any couple's simple kissing.

23. Agreed...apparently they weren't "tossed"
After speaking with the seating host, Hale said, the women left their seats some time around the third inning and spent a "good chunk" of the match up filing a formal complaint to Guest Services. Hale did not know whether the women then left the game or returned to their seats.

She said staff would speak to the seating host involved in the incident Friday.

"This is not a place where we are targeting people based on sexual orientation or any other classification. Our goal is to have an atmosphere where everyone is welcome," she said.

Ms. Guerrero, who filed the complaint:

And she's a celebrity!

According to MTV's web site, Guerrero was also a contestant on the network's reality TV show "A Shot At Love 2 With Tila Tequila."

29. What means this "proactive" of which they speak?
Mariners spokeswoman:

"Our policy is, if your behavior is inappropriate in a public setting, we are going to proactively intervene."

Sounds like if they have to wait until after you exhibit "inappropriate" behavior -- like kissing someone of the same sex -- to throw you out, it's "reactive" (and reactionary). I will also note that both my spell checker and DU's do not consider "proactively" to be an English word.

And inasmuch as baseball games promote the "kiss cam" thing in between innings, it's a little ridiculous to toss out people who kiss "off the clock". I don't know if Seattle has a "kiss cam" or not, but the last time I attended a Royals game, they turned the cam on a man and woman sitting next to each other, and when they noticed they were on the JumboTron the man immediately turned and kissed not the woman but the man seated on his left. AFAIK, neither were kicked out.

5. That's too bad
I think they should have tossed the heterosexual couples too. It may not have been the case here but I can't stand to see people grope each other in public, hetero or homosexual. A quick kiss no big deal but I've seen it get weird fast, usually alcohol fueled.

I was at a Patriots game last year and this couple was damned near having sex in the seat. They were hammered and finally kicked out after about 15 minutes.

they almost fell off the seat once too. Pissed me off because while those of us in the row behind them were verbally assaulting them we missed a pick.

It was a truly disturbing sight, not the kind of couple that you'd want to watch do anything.

17. Were they groping or kissing?
The woman who complained said "groping". And her "having to explain to her kids" excuse implies SHE was uncomfortable....but if it was just kissing, that's her problem.

Multiple choice:

"Mommy, why are those women kissing?"

A) They're perverts!

B) It's a prelude to muff diving...right here in the bleachers!

C) They love each other.

D) Auhhhhh...ghhhhrrrgg....God I wanna do it too!!!!!

I guess she wants her kids to find out lesbians exist from the Internet or on TV.

20. I don't care to see any one "groping" or
"making out" in a public place. It heightens my curiosity to wonder why they bother going someplace if that's all they want to do is look at each other and go to all the bases (pun intended). Holding hands, or some other sign of affection without the drama, is okay--that's why you take someone on a "date."

Sometimes people do that sort of behavior consciously to get attention--both genders, and with either gender as well. I know some guys who want to get a rise out of watchers and act inappropriately specifically for that reason.

You can't stop everyone who is attention-grabbing, but those who are more outrageous could--and should--be told to turn it down a notch.

43. That's the perfect response.
When stupid businesses give nursing mothers shit, the lactivist (pro-breastfeeding) community usually responds with a nurse-in. It's great because it's a visual story and gets a little free publicity, but also serves as a chance to get out and educate people.

I think an organized kiss-in would be a great way of responding to this.

51. Years ago I was at Disneyland. We were eating outside a snack food place on a patio with tables and
chairs. The parade came by and there was a lot of music. Two women got up and started dancing together. They were laughing and having a good time. Then two Disneyland cops went up to them and the women got a horrified look on their faces and started to run away and the cops went after them.

It looked to me like they were going after the women for dancing/maybe something else.
