1. I'm biased, but it was superb
A proper balance of idealism and realism. Government can do more, but the civil rights movement also taught us what people can do when they get off their asses, put some discipline in their lives and organize themselves around a noble and holy principle.

Obama wants us all to turn the TV off and get serious about life. It's a thing of beauty.

Catch the re-run.

2. It was good........and they were with him.
He's really a great speaker, and today was no exception. Obama brought up the thing about his mother's ancestors owning slaves...........something like Barack Obama married a woman who's ancestors had owned slaves...........put a positive light to the news. Was very good. No shame, which is right.....you aren't responsible for the past.

4. "you aren't responsible for the past."
Really He said that? That is very interesting. Was he saying that if he was not responsible for his ancestors owning slaves than neither are today's white southerners? That a prety bold statement and an appeal to the present rather than an appeal to the past which is a staple of the old guard of the Civil Rights movement.

That would be a challenge to move forward and stop solely blaming others for the current state of the black community.

5. I think you should watch his speech when it is rebroadcasted and
listen closely to what he said.

6. I don't remember him saying those words.
He mentioned how his father came to this country and his mother, whose ancestors owned slaves, got married and had a child. Saying if it wasn't for the marchers at Selma, Alabama, that wouldn't have been possible.

Watch the speech at 6:30 pm ET on C-Span.

8. No, he didn't say that, I did.
Sins of the fathers and such.

Sorry if I confused the issue.

3. It will be repeated again tonight on C-SPAN -
At 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. - As "Road to the White House".

I saw it and I thought he did well. He hit a lot of important notes including economic justice, closing education & health gaps, responsibility of this generation to carry on for those who marched in Selma. I want to hear him speak about international relations: Iraq, Iran, and more.

I don't like the religious overtones in his speech. I know that he made the speech in a church and I know that Rev. Dr. King would've had the same overtones -- I would've been uncomfortable still. So 'tis MY problem. I have to say that seeing Senator Clinton (who followed Senator Obama on C-SPAN) riffing on the same religious overtones made me go past 'uncomfortable' right to GAG.

:(

9. I hadn't seen him speak yet
And it was very, very impressive, indeed.

Reminded me of a young Bill Clinton. Very relaxed with his audience, very in tune with them. Lots of talk about personal responsibility and changing yourself to change the world.

I'm not taking sides or making picks in the primaries yet. But I certainly see what the buzz has been about!

Unfortunately, following his speech, Hillary came off as sincere, but trying too hard. Nothing she said was anything but good. But she just lacks that comfort in her own skin...
