Aunt Nancy spanks little George's bottom.
Edited on Tue May-20-08 09:12 PM by Old Crusoe
This past week in Israel the President of the United States equated (Barack Obama) with appeasers of Adolf Hitler. Mr. Bush used the term "appeaser." His tone was dismissive, mocking, fit for a 2nd grade schoolyard.

By way of response, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-California), reminded the press that the Congress generally and the Congressional Leadership especially remains adherent to the protocol which demands that no criticism of a U.S. President be made while that president stands on foreign soil.

Pelosi added what in my opinion is one of the most devastating comments ever made about George W. Bush in noting that as Congress shall not criticize the president while he is on foreign soil so too should the president refrain from attacks on U.S. citizens when HE is on foreign soil.

I contacted Pelosi's office to thank her for taking the spoiled fake cowboy out to the woodshed.

1. Too bad he can't be given a real whipping; can't think of anyone
who deserves it more. Compared to what he's done to our country and our troops, it wouldn't be cruel and unusual AT ALL. Quite the contrary, it's his "pResidency" that has been cruel and unusual punishment for the American people.

3. Hi, grannylib. It sure has been a long, long, dreary, 8 years with
the Bush folks.

This life-long Democrat will be screaming with elation this coming January!

I often approach the calendar on the wall and yell, "Faster! Faster!"

2. Good on her and i love how the gopers were screaming last time round that
"Politics stops at the water's edge". They are pathological liars and hypocrites that should really just shut their gaping maws and go home with their vestigial tails between their legs.

4. Hi, chimpsrsmarter. Yep -- the Republicans have a lot to answer for
this time around.

Of course we've likely not been much impressed with them ever, but with Bush & Cheney, they've kind of outdone themselves.

It's one thing to shoot yourself in the foot. It's quite another to use a bazooka to do it.

I'm counting the days and I applaud Pelosi for that scaldingly appropriate public rebuke of Dubya.

5. I don't recall Tom Foley or Tip O'Neil
or Dick Gephardt ever being described as spanking the President's bottom.

This prevailing attitude is why it's so hard for women to succeed in politics. Why can't you just say she smacked him down, as you would say about any male Speaker?

7. The characterization was an age hinge, not a gender hinge.
Bush as spoiiled child; Pelosi as stern grown-up.

13. We could make it uber-Freudian, even. "She took a scythe to his
teensy balls."

What I liked about the story itself was Pelosi's invoking the protocol -- something Bush likely never heard of or never respected if he has -- and used it against him not only in defense of a Democrat, but of any U.S. citizen, which reasserts the role of the Congress in a Constitutional republic AND points out the shallow smartassery that defines Bush's White House.

She wins the day.

11. I agree...
however he's not one to understand subtlety so it was probably lost on him and his minions.

I agree with grannylib that a real whipping is what he needs and would understand.

Good for Nancy. I'll give her points for this just the same though.

15. Agree. Bush probably doesn't get how badly she knocked him down.
But Capitol HIll followed the bouncing ball. So did the Republican National Committee, I'm guessing.

The future of the U.s. Congress goes through Nancy Pelosi's office, and I'm thinking after this coming November, there will be quite a bit fewer Repubicans in that chamber than there are now.
