John McCain really is a shitty candidate
There may have been a time in his past when he could have, in a stretch, been something sorta, kinda akin to an actual maverick. These days, he seems far closer to an out of touch old coot.

His wife bought and paid for him and has trained him to run for president. He knows the proper way to obsequiously say "Yes, Ma'am. May I have another?"

Being a man who has a penchant for cameras, he has a long and storied history of saying all sorts of shit that can now be cherry picked to come back and bite his bony old ass really hard. Like today's clips of him endorsing talks with Hamas.

When he talks about anything, he really does cause you to tune out. He's Danny's Uncle Tanus without the humor.

That combover just makes him look older and more decrepit than he is.

His wife has dead eyes and invokes no feelings of warmth by her presence. She is the prototypical, cold, rich, heartless Republican woman.

Bob Dole was a better candidate.

Feel free to pile on.

2. I admit to at one time liking him back in 2000...
If he'd won the repub nomination I probably would have voted for him over Gore. He didn't and Gore got my vote.

Now, he's a pathetic sell-out.

3. I'd say you pretty much nailed everything about him ......
Edited on Fri May-16-08 08:34 PM by Tangerine LaBamba
Of course, there is his wooden way of speaking, those odd pauses, the canned phrases that he's obviously worked hard to memorize, and when I see him walk, I realize he's thirty minutes away from shuffling.

Ronald Raygun was already in the early throes of dementia when he was visited upon us, but at least his withering brain was well-trained enough to let him act as if he were sentient. He always walked as if he knew what was going on.

Not McCain.

His weird speech yesterday about what he would do in his role as President, about having weekly press conferences and going before both houses of Congress, reminded me of the pathetic way John Tower, when he wanted so desperately to be confirmed as Secretary of Defense, publicly took a vow that he'd not drink any more. It was humiliating for him, embarrassing for those of us who were watching, and, in the end, a futile and wasted gesture.

McCain is doing the exact same thing.

4. I have a fundie / evangelical friend who agrees with you...
...unfortunately, he also sees McSwine as the lesser of evils in the McCain-Obama-Clinton triad.

The good news, I guess, is that some McCain voters won't be able to "hold their nose and vote McCain," as my friend puts it.

Victory can be measured in the solidarity among Democratic voters. It's going to be Obama or Clinton. Are we ready to go the distance with both of them?

:patriot:

9. Zogby: 76% of (R)'s are dissatisfied with the candidates.
Compared to 18% for (D)'s.

For me, that pretty much says everything I need to know about November 4, 2008.

23. Funny thing. For awhile now, I've suspected that, when they...
...close their door at night, the elegant and refined Mrs. McCain slips into a leather bustier and thigh-high boots to become Cynthia, Mistress of the Dom Dungeon. And John loves nothing more than to don ball gag, leg irons, and dog collar, then drop to his knees and beg for the exquisite sting of her bull whip.

I'm just saying I can see how it might be within the realm of possibility.

McCain has my respect as a former POW, but not as a politician. We need to make hay of that.

37. Yes, indeed
when the kids finally realize that all the freeper-like behavior we've had during this primary needs to be focused on McCain (true, it's getting a LITTLE better). I already posted one juicy McCain item today and it sank like a rock. I'll be glad when we all start doing our research and using our energy to swiftboat McCain instead of the Dem candidates.

32. I have only this to add--McCain is a shadow of a cardboard cutout.
Has anybody ever figured out that "Maverick" stands for windmill? He'll forsake party-loyalty to turn where the wind blows--there you have him. But if he needs the *base*, well, button up your hatches, there McCain blows!

He rankled that anyone picked up on 100 years in Iraq as being a distinctly bad thing because (ahem--they don't like us there, and we might be part of the problem) we have already made a big commitment in manpower and resources, to little positive avail, and yet, this week his campaign declared "Ponies for everyone!" War is over if you vote for McCain and wait until 2013. He also, in the skullduggerous fashion of the opportunistic campaigner, went from stating he'd run a more honorable campaign and just very recently, saying he'd be more open-minded than...presumably the Bush Administration, but once the Bush Knesset "some people say" business was out there, he was nodding like a little puppet. (And Joe Lieberman, from his position in McCain's colon, also may have nodded. Why is McCain's head up his own rear so often lately? To say "Hey" to Joe.)

He boasts about campaign reform, and then has a campaign staff lousy with lobbyists--so much so, even players for the pay of dictators have had to step down when Mccain recognized he had to step it up. Good old red-blooded capitalist lobbyists, I could maybe sympathize, even as I snarked--but Myanmar? Dude, bad. )

He's an unexciting speaker with little to say, since you can already tell he will contradict himself eventually. He's banking on people voting for him because he's like the weather in California--if you don't like him now, wait a few hours.

He's got a lot of play in his spine for a man who has weathered so many years in Congress. He's got a reputation for being moderate and even green--but a look-see over his record tells you no such thing. He has stated he wants a court full of Scalias, he opposes choice, he wants to cut government services even as he expands the budget. His record on the environment, vet's affairs, and labor will easily inform you he is a real conservative (ahem--full of ballocks.) His health care plan was written by lobbyists and would make everything worse. His foreign policy was written by the adrenalin of a paranoid psychotic and will make many people dead.

In other words, I think rational people would not tend to vote for him, actually. There may have been something salvageable in him once--for all we know--but he seems to be a proper GOP zombie-puppet, now.
