Eating lots of ice cream could help you get pregnant

Ben & Jerry might help you get pregnant, but not in the usual way. A diet rich in ice cream and other high-fat dairy foods may lower the risk of one type of infertility, a study suggests. It sounds too good to be true and probably is, some doctors say. But the findings are bound to get attention because they are from the well-known Nurses Health Study at the Harvard School of Public Health and were published Wednesday in the European journal Human Reproduction.

Researchers found that women who ate two or more low-fat dairy products a day were nearly twice as likely to have trouble conceiving because of lack of ovulation than women who ate less than one serving of such foods a week. Conversely, women who ate at least one fatty dairy food a day were 27 percent less likely to have this problem.

Seriously, this is interesting. Low fat or no fat is the best way for most of us. Perhaps some bodies need a rich diet before they "decide" to reproduce. (Too bad it's not consistent--skim milk would become much more popular with many women!)

13. Body fat holds estrogen.

I was told by my doctor that slightly overweight women have higher estrogen levels which contributes to fertility. Since estrogen is fat soluble it does seem that women with moderate fat diets would benefit as far as fertility.

My mother's sister is thin..had a horrid time with menopause. My mother is more "rubinesque"...she sailed through menopause without a problem...

Of course, my "problems" getting pregnant may have something to do with my tubal ligation and/or my endometrial ablation, but dammit, I'm going to keep trying.
