OK, it's now big enough deal for GD. NFL Draft is Saturday. What's your team, and who's your pick?

Sadly, it doesn't matter much for me, because for my team, there is no hope, and hasn't been for 50 years, even with Barry Sanders. So I live vicariously through your hopes and dreams. What's your team, and who's the likely pick? Who would you actually like to see them pick, and what later-round gem would you like to see them get?

1. I think the Lions should take ... Rush Limbaugh.
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 05:45 PM by Bozita
Boy, will he ever get his ass whooped weekly.

And, it'll be televised in HD.

6. They could use a better Rushing game. A 57-year-old fatass physical coward is perfect.
Hey, Rush.

Plenty in the NFL would like to kick your ass, you chickenhawk coward.

C'mon, Rush. No more visiting those little boys overseas with your Viagra tabs in tow.

You coward.

10. Rush might prefer something on defense, where he gets to use his hands on those big men's bodies.

15. I think he'd prefer little boys, but you could be right.
How much do you think he is paying his three wives to keep their mouths shut?

It must be a lot. A hell of a lot.

21. Do you think a lot of the opposing teams will remember Rush's football broadcasting days?
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 09:18 PM by Bozita
Coaches always urge their teams to give that extra effort. Sometimes they don't need to.

12. I'd root for the Lions.

If the Roman Colliseum was still in bidness.

I doubt if you would truly enjoy that spectacle.

Just a game here.

8. Thank you, my friend.
I am a Detroit Lions fan since I can remember (11 in 1962).

Fuck these smug assholes who are so goddamn superior that we aren't supposed to enjoy football.

My former sister-in-law used to rag my ass about being a football fan, because soccer was the REAL football. Of course, she didn't give a rat's ass about soccer, either, but like the jagoff you responded to, just had to say something.

I will go to my grave loving football. I work hard, raised a family, am a voracious reader and passionate Dem, and I will be DAMNED if I will take this kind of crap.

I have your back next time, trumad.

conceal deep resentment from being the last ones ever picked for a team.

5. Redskins
I'd like to see them draft Devin Thomas, the Michigan St. WR, in the 1st. And as far as late-rounders go, I'm high on Owen Schmitt, the West Virginia fullback. That dude would've fit in well with the vikings (the actual Norse warriors, not the underachieving NFL franchise).

7. I don't think Thomas will be there then. I bleed green and white, and live in Silver Spring.
I'm tellin' ya, Devin Thomas is the Real Deal, and I would love to see him go to the Redskins. He would be perfect - explosive as hell. Can't see him dropping that far, but I would love it, now that I live here.

The Vikings got Jared Allen instead.

Thank you, Kansas City. Hope this works out for everyone.

16. Gads, the Vikings have always owned the Lions. Tough stuff, though, about four Super Bowls.
Carl Eller, Fran Tarkenton - great stuff. I love the NFC North; Lions, Bears, Vikings, Packers

That's football.

13. Oh c'mon. Can't you come up with something more original than a paper bag?
That one's been done already (see avatar at left).

Then again, Bungles fans glommed onto our "Who dat?" and tried to pass it off as "Who dey?", so maybe we're doing something right after all.

14. I'll see you the Aint's history. You stuck us with Pat Swilling, for Willie Roaf.
Hell, the Bungles have been to the Super Bowl.

The Cardinals have more than one playoff win in 52 years. The Aints stuck the Lions with one of the worst free agents of All Time, Pat Swilling, who not only gave you your all-pro Hall of Fame caliber offensive lineman Willie Roaf, but who INSISTED that he HAD to have Joe Schmidt's retired number at linebacker. And the STINKING/ Lions did it, they un-retired Hall of Famer Joe Schmidt's number to humor Pat Swilling, who was SWILLfrom the get go.

And you and the Cardinals' fans think you are even CLOSE to how horrible the Lions have been for more than 50 years. Damn.

Joe Schmidt: Class act. Great citizen. Winning coach.

Pat Swilling: Not even a piece of Schmidt.

19. By George, I think I've got it!
Agreed. The Lions are, unimaginably, even worse than the (S)Aints (or Cards or anyone else). So, how to demonstrate your displeasure at a degree of futility unmatched anywhere in the NFL, if not in all of professional sports?

With plastic bags! At least you'd be put out of your misery...

I don't care who your candidate is. Plastic bags for Bushbots, and McCain supporters.

Besides, this is The Year for the Lions. Right????? (OK, bring on the plastic bag).

22. 'With the 15th selection, the Detroit Lions select Derrick Harvey of the University of Florida.'
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 09:47 PM by Octafish
Last year's trio of number two's hasn't done the trick.

The Lions need a thunderbolt from end.
They also need a pair of blasters on the OL.
And a cornerback who can stick.
And a great running back.
Might as well draft a quarterback from Oregon, while were at it.

There will never be another Barry,
or Walter Payton or Jim Brown,
but there again will be greatness in the Motor City.

23. That's my choice, too. A Marinelli guy. I think they might get Mayo in round 2.
Maybe that's a reach. But Ray Rice in round 3 might be good.

Defense, defense, defense this year. And always remember: Except for Boss Bailey, speed kills

Check back, my friend, and I think you're right.

Got to give it up for the Big Dog, though. No finer draft choice than Barry at 3 in 1989.
