I mean at the present time. I'm not interested in a history lesson.

Does anyone know of any nations on Earth that require either an intelligence test or a civics test to be a qualified voter?

1. Who decides
Who decides who is intelligent? When I grew up in Georgia, we had to prove we could write - with a ball point pen and a sheet of waxed paper.

6. Our founding fathers would PUKE ABSOLUTELY at such a thought!
I cannot think of any more dangerous ideas to our democracy than to give the government the totalitarian power to select who among the populace is qualified to vote....

Talk about fascism!

7. Don't be so sure
They had no problem with property qualifications (which some conservatives today privately still support), and of course not allowing women and blacks to vote.

9. I think I know what you're thinking here, and I agree in principle.
In fact, I like the idea of some sort of test or qualification prior to having children as well as voting. The problem is we'd never agree on who sets the standards and what the standards would be. There's just too much room for disaster there.

I live in an area with a heavy Amish population. I'll bet every single one of them votes straight Republican and they always have, even though they are almost entirely ignorant of the issues. The bishops tell them to vote Republican and that's that. All they know is "the Democrats want to take our money".
