We clinch retaining Arkansas senate seat as rethugs don't put up a candidate

Sen. Mark Pryor's (D-AR) bid for re-election "soared from highly likely to virtually certain Monday, when no Republican challenger met the state’s congressional filing deadline at noon central time," CQ Politics reports.

2. The Republicans don't need a candidate
They've got a good, solid DINO vote with Pryor

3. Better Pryor than a rethug
We aren't going to get a Ted Kennedy or Russ Feingold elected in a state like Arkansas. Many progressives were lukewarm, or even hostile to Harold Ford's 2006 candidacy but I think we can all now agree that we would much prefer Ford in that seat instead of Corker.

4. Pryor got in the Senate on his name
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 10:26 PM by Art_from_Ark
His popular father was a relatively progressive Senator, as was Pryor Senior's colleague Dale Bumpers. And Arkansas produced one of America's most renowned Senators, J. William Fulbright, not to mention Joe Robinson, who was instrumental in pressing for the New Deal.

So you can say that I am quite disappointed with Pryor Junior.

5. One more thing about the Arkansas Senate seats
They have got to be about the safest Democratic seats in the whole Senate.

In the entire period since Reconstruction, only one Republican has ever won a US Senate seat in Arkansas. That was Tim Hutchinson, and he was out after one term.

6. Pryor is one of the WORST Dem Senators we have.
Not even a shadow of his daddy, and too often too anxious to do the GOP's bidding.

7. You're right
Pryor cashed in on his father's name and reputation, but he knows he can't get elected if he has an "R" after his name, so he pretends to be a "D"
