Sherry Lansing is quite a role model!
I've always thought she was intelligent and had a lot of class, but never more so than tonight.

4. Welcome to DU!!
And I agree - the gown was perfect: elegant and beautiful, plus it looked good on her (so many stars pick pretty gowns but they aren't meant for their body types or height - it's so strange).

5. Yes. I didn't think Gwyneth Paltrow's gown looked "right"
I don't know if it was the color, or if it was too tight. The idea was good but something about it was off.

Thanks for the welcome. :hi:

an old man once gave to me a pocketwatch and a picture of George Bernard Shaw giving him the watch (the old man was dying).

Engraved on that watch is Shaw's "The Clock of Life" and that poem includes...

live, love, toil with a will
place no faith in time
for the hands may soon stand still

Seeing your post and 'name' has taken me way back. To a much simpler time.

Tom

6. Wasn't she the one who wrote the book about how she got screwed over by Streisand's
former hairdresser when he became a director? Or was that someone else?

7. Wasn't her - not sure who that was. She is writing a book though and all $$ goes to cancer research.
I believe it comes out next year - a memoir of her career in Hollywood. She's reported to be getting $1 million for it and has pledged it all to cancer research.

I'd be interested if anyone knows the book you're referring to - sounds juicy!

8. Just checked the title. It was Dawn Steele who was screwed over
But I remember Sherry Lansing from something else, and I don't know what it is

10. from imdb
Became the first woman to head a major studio when she took control of 20th Century Fox in 1980.

Was hit by a car in the mid-1980s. She almost lost a leg and nearly died.

Became chairman of Paramount Pictures in 1992. Stepped down as CEO in 2005.

Measurements: 35-24-34 (Source: Celebrity Sleuth magazine)

1962 graduate of University of Chicago Lab School

A member of The Regents of the University of California. She was appointed in March 1999 to a term expiring in March 2010.

In "Hollywood Animal: A Memoir", Joe Eszterhas claims that Sherry Lansing, the boss of Paramount Pictures, asked him to issue a statement that he supported Paramount's hiring of William Friedkin as director for his Jade (1995) script. Friedkin was Lansing's husband, and she wanted protection from charges of nepotism. He issued the statement. In truth, Eszterhas did not want the former Oscar-winner, whom he considered a washed-up has-been, to direct the picture, but deferred to Lansing's wishes.

Will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 79th Academy Awards .
