Kucinich Postpones Bush Impeachment Effort, Giving Conyers A Shot
Washington -- After promising to mark President Bush's final State of the Union speech by introducing articles of impeachment against Bush, Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich postponed the effort.

Kucinich said Monday that he met with members of the House Judiciary Committee after making last week's impeachment pledge. He said he came away "hopeful there will be an inquiry by the Judiciary Committee."

"I will give them the opportunity to proceed before introducing articles of impeachment," he said in a statement. The committee's spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment.

He goes on to say he doesn't think Impeachment will happen this year, but inquiries could.

16. His brother died with-out obvious cause about 1 month ago....
I was always amazed at how he stayed true to our country even when the odds were insurmountable and the pressures around him were unbearable for most.He has remained our champion. I give him his time to see if Conyers keeps his word.

12. He's Stepping On Wexler's Toes
Several points need to be made.

First...DK is not on the Judiciary Committee...the one that will bring articles of impeachment. His resolutions have been to prod the Judiciary committee to action...without them impeachment dies. In fact, that's where his resolutions have gone...to the Judiciary committee.

Second, the Committee has been conducting its own investigations and it's Congressman Wexler's resolution...that not only comes from a Judiciary committee member but also has other committee members as sponsors that deserves the attention here. Resolutions are fine and good, but they hold little real authority unless you have powerful sponsors...DK doesn't. Wexler is in a far better position to take the lead here and methinks there was a meeting of the minds within the Democratic caucus on going in this direction.

10. But Wouldn't That Be Why?
I mean, that's what his supporters would scream out to any other Dem who didn't come through in the perfect world ways in which their minds perceive things. Would it not apply here as well then? Just sayin...

11. I don't know why myself . . . I only have a feeling Nancy got to him

perhaps she threatened a drop in party support

perhaps she is working a compromise of some kind

perhaps it is simply delayed for some reason

I do not know the reason nor care to guess. I jsut have a feeling Nancy got to him.

on edit - I also do not care to characterize him as you describe. I see no reason to do so.

15. Dennis already came through in the "perfect way", over and over. Far above any other.
He introduced articles of impeachment against Cheney. He stood up when noone else had the nerve. This week, the republicans are pouring millions of dollars into a huge campaign to remove him from office as a congressman, as a result of all he is doing. He needs a few days to reorganize, after having been the only presidential candidate to stand up for all the things we progressives believe in. Even without a chance to become president, he singlehandedly brought the Democratic debate to the left.

So no I don't think it applies.

P.S. kucinich is not my candidate, but you need to give credit where credit is due.

8. I am hoping.
This, along with the story put up by kpete, suggests something may be happening. I hope that real things are happening.

Pleas. Please. Please.
