So we are now $600 to $1200 whores? I'm shocked...
For years we've collectively whined and moaned about the greedy "rich", the "corporate thieves" etc., ad nauseum. Suddenly this morning there are
a number of threads asking : WHERE'S MINE? This is coming from all walks -- retirees, the disabled, and most surprisingly the self-employed (this last group is most disturbing...if they haven't benefitted from the Bush Admin they really need to fire their accountants). The unemployed, retirees, etc. I can understand but...

Am I alone in finding this mildly disturbing?

1. 6 to 12 hundred bucks isn't going to do one damn thing for any
of us. Pay the rent for 1 month (or part of the rent), buy some groceries, pay the back utilities bills, whatever. That isn't going to help us OR the economy.

Sometimes I wonder how damn stupid the American public really is. Then I think about it. And I know they're pretty fucking stupid. bush** and Cheney are still running the country into the grounda and we're letting them.

8. Things I could do with $600:
*help pay off my TV

*pay off my Firestone card so I can cut it up and never ever go there again for anything at all

*help pay off my one credit card I've been paying off for more than 12 years

*bank it

Notice, I'm not actually going to "spend" it on something I want. I suspect that's the case for nearly everyone. I bet shrubbie know that, too.

2. I am disturbed that a country so deeply in debt, with vets in need of new hospitals
can write hot checks to its entire fucking population, so our asshole President doesn't go out on a 'recessional note'.

I am sick about it.

3. It's stunning. But, I can't know what goes on the lives of others in my real world or virtual world.
It's a disgusting ploy by the entire DC corps.

And the number changes constantly and we still haven't heard EXACTLY from where the magical money will come.

And, when will we get it? March? July?

Disgusting.

It's like giving a child a piece of candy to keep quiet in the grocery store, in the end this is going to come back to bite us.
I'm going to do a jack Johnson, I'm just going to sit here on the pier and watch ya'll go on down.

17. Worse the cash on the nightstand came from a loan against our future paychecks.

6. And its looking like an advance on next years taxes so you have to pay it back.
Nothing like people complaining about other getting money they have to pay back lol... what a joke. Ow and agreed on small business... my friend had a 'small business' that he absolutely abused the hell out of for everything. You can hide so much money in a small business its not even funny.

10. No defense of Bush or this little bribe to us, but
this is the only place I've seen people say that, and there hasn't been any confirmation of that. Most of the people urging this "stimulus" action specified that it wouldn't stimulate anything if we just have to pay it back; they're saying it needs to be a gift, not a loan on next year's return.

We need an official word on that, but I have yet to see anything of the kind.

11. Agree completely. We plan on being "econo-terrorists" (thanks to a DUer for the term)
and put our windfall in the bank. I'm not going to spend a dime to help Georgie out, as if this pittance could. My wife is chaperoning a school trip to Spain so she is going to spend her money over there (saving the most for a side trip taken to Paris). That would piss off the pukes.

12. it's just a handout and I find the whole thing despicable.
throwing money at people will not help the economy at all. It needs to go towards Food Stamps and Unemployment. This stimulus plan really needs some more work done to it.

13. People--THAT IS YOUR MONEY from next year's taxes We are not whores.
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 10:15 AM by librechik
We are decent folks who had a sneak thief steal into our accounts, take out $600, then come up to us on the street and use the same money to try to buy us. That's a whole different level of whoredom.

22. Fair Is Fair
It is only fair that everyone should share equally in the money that the government will be providing.

Why should some get the money and others be left out?

23. This all sounds voodoo solutions to me
like how are they even figuring out this magical fix? like are they using the 2006 tax year or the 2007 tax year? because if they are using the 2007 tax year they won't even know who fits in what bracket until people file their taxes, and yet they are figuring this quick fix of how much we make vs how much we get back to fix the recession all wrapped up by May or June. It's just confusing to me, let alone if it will work or not.

24. Yes it is very disturbing
You are not alone.

Everyone is paying attention to who gets and doesn't get the cash.

I am very worried about the corporate giveaways in the bill and the potential corporate giveaways the GOPers and Centrist Dems are fighting to get into the bill.

Not to mention what this is doing to the deficit and the slim likelihood any of this will do anything to forestall a recession.
