I can foresee the scenario where it ends up Romney v. Edwards...
McCain's strength in S.C. was multiplied by independents in an 'open' primary. McCain has been called out as 'unacceptable' by Limbaugh and others.

Uncle Fred is Dead. Huckabee won't reach far beyond the rightwing fundamentalists(and he has some horrible history as governor which will come back to bite him). Giuliani is a candidate in name only(and that is before he gets called as a witness in his business partner Kerik's trial on federal charges).

That leaves Romney(who happens to have the most money to spend).

Hillary has plenty of skeletons in the closet(as does Bill) any of which could become public at any time and sink her.

Obama may do himself in for the Democratic Nomination by trying to reach out to Repubs(ie. his Reagan admiration comment). Also there is the Rezko problem(trial Feb 25th) for Obama, and the land purchase deal --each of which could hurt his standing.

And if Hillary and Obama continue to assault each other, that could leave room for voters to turn to Edwards.

NO one knows what will happen --but stranger things have happened in politics.

It would be ironic that given the state of affairs today, Repubs could rally around Romney as their candidate before the convention and Dems might still be in a state of flux come convention time depending upon which events happen and when.

3. Would stand a better chance then Hilary
Lest we forget our Rasmussen polling numbers early on that showed Hilary would lose but Edwards would win. Yet we'll go blindly into the night (whistling in the dark) they were wrong and Hilary won't subject us to yet another Republican administration

5. Now that you can foresee this race. Let's visualize President
Edwards "cleaning up the swamp". I'm quoting some cleaver D.U. poster-sorry I can't remember the name.

Kucinich up against Huckabee.

8. Let's hope so.
Edwards is the best candidate the Democrats have and Romney is the worst candidate the Republicans have. Edwards could appeal to folks even on the Repuke side that would never vote for Romney because he's (in their words) a flip-flopping mormon.

so that will be an uphill fight.

11. lol - a battle of the phonies -
It's not going to happen. Edwards and Romney SAY all the "right" things for their respective bases, but people on both sides are getting wise: Edwards' 5% in Nevada shows that the Dem grassroots are waking up about Edwards' true nature, and if you scan sites like National Review online (the home of the "smart" conservatives) you'll find that some of those elites are starting to come to terms with McCain and with the dislike that so many Republicans have for Romney.

14. I have had it with Obama and Hillary.
In the last two weeks I was leaning toward Obama, then Hillary.

There was nothing to admire with Ronald Reagan, any Democrat who appeals to Reagan's legacy is not a true member of the Democratic Party.

From what I have seen Obama and Clinton have managed trivialize real issues domestic and foreign policy into a ploy keeping the extreme right wing pundits such as Mathews and Bill-O happy.

16. I really hope you are right
about Edwards, I would like him to be the democratic nominee, I donated a $100 to his campaign and already mailed my absentee ballot to NY

However, chances of that are slim, he doesn't seem to be able to get more than 15% anywhere, so like you said unless something happens to implode either clinton or obama he is going to go the way of thompson, SC is really his line in the sand right now, he is not gonna win it, but if he gets more votes than clinton or obama he puts himself back in this race

Republican primary is still wide open, Guiliani didn't even start to compete yet, but it could easily be Romney

20. Edwards is as viable now as Bill Clinton was in '92
from an OzarkDem post yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4120240

"Clinton didn't even start winning primaries until they moved into the southern states, where Edwards has been focusing his race.

Obama and Clinton supporters are wrong to think they can win the GE by a safe margin without southern states, but its not likely.

Edwards is still in the race and that bothers the MSM. They can't ignore him forever."

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It's too early to say it can't be done, and I ain't about to give up!

Thanks to OzarkDem!
