Mitch McConnell's LTTE in ChiTrib - any other papers print this?

Did your local paper print a letter from Mitch because it "mischaracterized" Saturady's vote?

Funding for troops

The headline "Anti-war resolution blocked; Democrats in Senate unable to overcome filibuster by GOP" (News, Feb. 18) mischaracterized Saturday's vote in the U.S. Senate.

This was not a vote to limit debate but, rather, a vote to expand the debate to include the most important issue, and the one that Congress controls: the funding of our troops in harm's way.

The Democratic leadership in both the House and Senate refused to allow a vote on the funding issue last week and insisted instead on having just one proposal before the Congress.

Five weeks ago, President Bush announced a plan to secure the city of Baghdad. He described this plan as our best shot at success and asked Congress to give it a chance to work.

The Senate confirmed Gen. David Petraeus to carry the mission out and sent him to Iraq. Another combat brigade was sent and another is expected arrive in Iraq this week.

This was the context in which Democrats attempted to deny a vote in the Senate Saturday: whether members will support our troops in the field with the funds they need to carry out their new and decisive mission.

The Senate will soon return to the issue of Iraq, and Senate Republicans will continue to insist that the Senate go on record as to whether or not the rhetoric of supporting the troops in the field is backed by actual funding.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell

(R-Ky.)

Republican leader

United States Senate

1. McConnell's party no longer controls the Senate because in 06 voters
perceived, rightly, that Bush-supporting Republicans lied us into a pointless, expensive and desperate war, that Bush-supporting Republicans were inept at best and corrupt at worst, that Bush-supporting Republicans cast a malevolent pall over the proceedings of the two representative chambers.

It's the best McConnell's got at the moment to try and stick his pudgy little finger in the dam, but the water on the other side isn't going away.

Best put on slickers and boots, Mitch. You're going to get wet.

2. We should send every soldier our country has under arms to Iraq
Give him what he so urgently desires for his corporate masters. Call his bluff. Nothing will change.

It will still fail.
It was intended to fail.
Chaos makes money for those orchestrating the on-going failure.
There is no intent to 'win' in Iraq. There never was. Perpetual war is the goal.

Mr. McConnell is a fool.

3. Well Mitch, based upon what we've seen at Walter Reed, the record is perfectly clear

that your rhetoric of supporting the troops was not backed by funding for services for wounded vets.

7. And notice that Mitchie the Clown's letter only mentions troops in the field.
He doesn't even pretend to care about the troops at home. He is an asshole of the highest order. :nuke:

5. Mean Mitch is up for re-election in '08 - he is one that needs to
have a big, bright red target painted on his ass. He needs to go. He came into office using a campaign of smears and lies (he actually led the Republic using this tactic years and years ago - I would love to know if KKKarl had a finger in that election it was so dirty) and has done nothing but work his ass off to make himself and his clueless wife richer for the effort. Nothing he has done had made this country a damn bit better for anyone but himself and his party.

Mean Mitch is another Dead Eye - secrecy and political maneuvering behind the scenes is his forté - and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he didn't pull a Cheney - head up a committee looking for a VP candidate and end up anointing himself. And if elected he would be just as bad, if not worse (since he is healthy) than Dead Eye.

8. yup right here.
GOP sought more debate on war
The Feb. 18 headline "Dems regroup after Senate loss / Talk gets tougher as GOP blocks troop-surge vote" mischaracterized Saturday's vote in the U.S. Senate.

This was not a vote to limit debate but rather a vote to expand the debate to include the most important issue, and the one that Congress controls: the funding of our troops in harm's way. The Democratic leadership in both the House and Senate refused to allow a vote on the funding issue and insisted instead on having just one proposal before the Congress. 11. There has to be more. The Trib and Sac Bee can't be the only papers
that "mis-characterized" poor Mitch and the Republics. If not in today's paper, I bet there will be more in the coming days.
