22. Didn't know about State Street,

but did know first hand about how screwed up this was. I was working as a service manager for the mortgage company owned by a S & L taken over by the RTC. Talk about someone being set up, the owners of the bank were talked into buying a failing S & L from FSLIC then shortly thereafter the law was changed that eliminated FSLIC. That law changed the way S & L's reported capitalization thresholds and eliminated goodwill as an asset. Needless to say the $25 million of goodwill that was recorded on the purchase of the failing bank by our parent company no longer was allowed to be capitalized and thus put us on the "hit" list. Within 2 years we were taken over by the RTC.

To this day I still remember being on the phone with the bank's general counsel when the federal marshals stormed the office (and they did storm the office), told everyone to drop what they were doing and keep their hands on their desks til they secured the office.
