Did the studios make a mistake in thinking America would care if the award shows are lost to the
strike?

I know there are people who aren't going to make money because of them being canceled. That's not who I'm talking about. The studios thought having to cancel the shows due to the strike would cause a backlash against the writer's union, and they are finding out people just don't care about their "galas."

1. One less night in my life that I've stayed up too late, for no good reason, and
been sorry in the morning.

If I'm gonna feel sorry in the morning, I'd rather it be for a better reason than that!

2. Well maybe the celebs arms can get back to their normal
length. They were dragging the ground from patting themselves on the back so much.

Wasn't there about one awards show a week for these people?

6. there's an Awards Season where there are 3 "major" awards shows
Not sure I understand what you're implying in your Post as many of those "celebrities" who attend awards shows spend much of the year either waiting -- hoping! -- for a job, waiting for the script they've reluctantly agreed to do to not be a pile of stinking, fetid garbage or spending 14 hour days on a set surrounded by sawdust, the banging of hammers and the whirring of saws and a coterie of people whose sole job is to pick apart every single flaw you have (and then "correct" it) before one scene can be shot.

Yep, quite the glamorous life they got.

3. I really enjoy the Oscars
It's the Grammys that are a total waste of my time. It's a sadly uncreative world when Beyonce receives an award for any artistic merit.

4. no one cares
but the people who do care, do so passionately. the ratings for these 'extravaganzas' are going down every year. just give the freaking awards out.

5. Backlash had nothing to do with it, it was financial.
They were canceled because it's expensive to produce, and they would only have lost money on it.
The viewing public is not going to tune in for an awards show when there are no monologues, no celebrity presenters, and no stars accepting trophies.

7. Of course, but if they had settled the strike. They felt if they could blame the writers union for
the cancellations they could cause backlash but I don't think there are that many people not involved with the industry missing them.
