For those who followed the Genarlow Wilson case in GA -- He's going to Morehouse College
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 08:12 AM by aikoaiko
This is the young man who was sentenced to 10 years for having consensual oral sex with a 15 year old due to a quirk in GA law that would have made the sexual incident punished as a misdemeanor if it had been intercourse. There was more involved than that, but thats the gist.

eta: Wilson v. State of GA

I was impressed with the young man's attitude and perspective when he was released from prison and I'm glad someone is helping him get a good education.

Wilson Going to Morehouse on Scholarship

By ERRIN HAINES – 16 hours ago

ATLANTA (AP) — Genarlow Wilson, whose case sparked protests after he was imprisoned for having consensual sex with a fellow teen, will attend Morehouse College with the help of a radio talk show host's foundation.

"Morehouse is a very good school," Wilson said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. "It has a lot of history, so it's definitely an honor to be accepted."

Wilson was sentenced to 10 years in prison on felony charges for having sex with a 15-year-old girl at a 2003 New Year's Eve party in Douglas County; he was 17 at the time. His case became a cause celebre highlighting disparities in the criminal justice system.

The Georgia Supreme Court freed him on Oct. 26, after he had spent nearly three years in prison. The court called his sentence "cruel and unusual punishment."

8. The state should be providing him with a free education after
imprisoning him for three years for that.

13. That's good news.. Here's hoping he does great in school and has a good life
It sounds like he is a positive person, and he probably used his time in jail as a time for personal growth. he will probably take college very seriously, and study hard..
