For example, the levees in N-O. There are tons of other examples; I'm sure you can think of some in your own community/state.

3. North / South
As I heard one newly enlightened Southernor say, "in the south, you can stick your fishing pole in the water any old time, but in the north, they know winter is coming and gotta prepare."

7. It seems it's human nature to enhance or create new problems
In our quest to fix problems, all we ever do is make the problem bigger and worse, or have a new problem pop up because of something we attempted to do. That's because we don't fix problems, we push them off into the future.

We didn't cure death for example, we just extended our life spans. We still die, and we have a mountain of problems that we we have to "fix" before we still eventually die.

We can travel hundreds and even thousands of miles in hours today, instead of days or weeks. On the other hand, we're altering the climate on a global scale. We "fixed" the problem of mobility, but now we're left with a giant problem that nobody actually wants to do much about. We all just want to keep doing what we're doing, but not have to pay for it. But there's that old cliche, nothing comes for free. If you want to go beyond the natural limits, you either have to pay the price, or, push the problem off into the future until you can't.

If we can push problems into the future indefinitely, then we can pretty much do whatever the hell we want. If we can't do that, and the further we push, the worse it's going to be when we no longer can.

8. Sheesh. No....
... It's human nature to not do anything about a problem as long as the perceived cost of doing something about it is greater than the perceived cost of doing nothing.

Of course, that sentence isn't as catching as yours.

The actuality of people's stupidity is enough - there's no need to gratuitously try to make them look even stupider.
