Who Do We Vote For This Time Around?

Friends,

A new year has begun. And before we’ve had a chance to break our New Year’s resolutions, we find ourselves with a little more than 24 hours before the good people of Iowa tell us whom they would like to replace the man who now occupies three countries and a white house.

Twice before, we have begun the process to stop this man, and twice we have failed. Eight years of our lives as Americans will have been lost, the world left in upheaval against us… and yet now, today, we hope against hope that our moment has finally arrived, that the amazingly powerful force of the Republican Party will somehow be halted. But we know that the Democrats are experts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and if there’s a way to blow this election, they will find it and do it with gusto.

Do you feel the same as me? That the Democratic front-runners are a less-than-stellar group of candidates, and that none of them are the “slam dunk” we wish they were? Of course, there are wonderful things about each of them. Any one of them would be infinitely better than what we have now. Personally, Congressman Kucinich, more than any other candidate, shares the same positions that I have on the issues (although the UFO that picked ME up would only take me as far as Kalamazoo). But let’s not waste time talking about Dennis. Even he is resigned to losing, with statements like the one he made yesterday to his supporters in Iowa to throw their support to Senator Obama as their “second choice.”

“I absolutely believe to my soul that this corporate greed and corporate power has an ironclad hold on our democracy?”

If you do believe that to your core, what are you going to do about it?
For me? I'm going to vote for the best fighter against corporate greed!!!

I'm taking MY COUNTRY BACK!!!! :grr:

1. Is that last one supposed to be
I'm NOT registered to vote anyway? Just wondering, because I do believe that corporations hold too much power over our politicians, but I keep voting anyway.

9. Of the choices; Kucinich #1 and then #2 Edwards
That's the way I see it now, after last nights debates.

I have to make a choice. The primary is looming.

35. That's how I'm going in, too. Kucinich #1 and then #2 Edwards
I was pleased to hear from an old volunteer buddy today. She was surpirsed that in her precinct, 5 out of 10 voters who showed up to a smaucus-caucus training were Kucinich supporters - and the remaining 5 were split. I doubt we'll see that in the majority of precincts, but, who knows. Caucus day may prove different. From the looks of things, Clinton has a well-oiled machine here, with lots of seasoned political folks running her office and doing ground work. "Parachuters" is one of the terms I heard used at a recent Clinton event I attended.

When's your primary?

Cape legislators head north to stump for presidential candidates

Tuesday's New Hampshire primary appears to be a make-or-break moment for most of the contenders for the Republican and Democratic nominations for president.

Can Hillary Clinton rebound from a disappointing finish in Iowa? Can Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee ride a tide of momentum to New Hampshire? Can Mitt Romney save his presidential aspirations with a big win? And what about John McCain and John Edwards?

The candidates have already trudged through the snow and slush, looking for every vote. A short drive south, Massachusetts legislators are in full campaign mode, even though the Massachusetts primary won't be held until Feb. 5.

By then, it may be too late.

So Massachusetts lawmakers have rushed north to try to tilt the balance for their presidential favorites.

They've led bus loads of volunteers to knock on doors, wave signs and staff telephone banks. Senate President Therese Murray, D-Plymouth, is headed to the Granite State this weekend to campaign for Hillary Clinton.

Even if local politicians aren't campaigning in New Hampshire, their endorsements can ripple through primary season — and be paid back later by a successful candidate.

Here's a roundup of Cape and Islands legislators and where they stand in the Democratic and Republican primaries:

Thank you.

Kucinich and Edwards are the only ones courageous enought to talk the real issues.

33. While I'm supportive of Edwards, ....
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 08:09 PM by TahitiNut
... I'm also inclined to respect the longer term demonstration of a reliable "Inner Compass" in Kucinich. He has been just about as steadfast (without being rigid) in adhering to his conscientious stances as I could ever expect of a public servant (politician).

Love is NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU'RE SORRY.

At the same time, "like" is saying you're sorry and 'disgust' is never apologizing or admitting errors.

If you can't take care of the details, it sorta takes the punch out of the big message.

15. It's not being persnickety to expect decent English when one is reading a diatribe.
It's reflective of the quality of the ideas, to be blunt.

One's case is made stronger when details like proper grammar are part and parcel of the dissertation.

Any idiot can shoot off at the mouth.

I happen to think grammar is important. If you don't, well, fine.

19. Thanks so much for that 'commentary. '
It gives me a very good sense of who you are.

I point something out, and you take it SO personally that you have to insist that the ONLY reason I could possibly notice a glaring error is because I'm "anal." A halfway decent education has nothing to do with it.

Tell you what: I'll maintain that attention to details is important, and you continue to grace us with gems like

Are you really that anal?

DLC is pro-corporatocracy. Kucinich sees them for what they are ("The Democratic Leadership Council's agenda is indistinguishable from the Republican Neoconservative agenda,") and says he'll do away with NAFTA and WTO.

26. He prefer's Edwards health care reform plan
from the linked article:

"Edwards is the only one of the three front-runners who has a universal health care plan that will lead to the single-payer kind all other civilized countries have. His plan doesn’t go as fast as I would like, but he is the only one who has correctly pointed out that the health insurance companies are the enemy and should not have a seat at the table."

It's coming down to we all have to make a choice soon, imho.
The best choice we can and the primaries are not far away.

I guess it's called 'compromise.'
