Larry Flynt.... “The other shoe’s going to drop any day,”
We’re getting about all the heads we can put over the mantel now,” Flynt tells me. In June of last year, he placed yet another ad in The Washington Post, again offering up to $1 million for evidence of “illicit sexual or intimate relations” with politicians and other officials; he claims the proposition has borne much fruit. Over the summer, when he began talking to me for this article, he dropped three A-list names—a Republican presidential candidate, a well-known Republican senator, and another prominent conservative official—whose peccadilloes he claimed Hustler was on the verge of exposing, hinting at hooker parties and no-tell-motel liaisons. When we sit down in the fall, these names are off the table, though investigations are said to be ongoing. The ripest target now, Flynt claims, is a closeted gay Republican senator who is not Larry Craig, though last spring Flynt’s investigators were also pursuing rumors about Craig, going as far as putting a surveillance team on him, before his arrest in June for allegedly soliciting sex in a men’s room at the Minneapolis airport.

“The other shoe’s going to drop any day,” Flynt says, speaking of the other senator. “It’ll surprise a lot of people that he’s gay. And I’ll bet you he resigns the same day and rides off into the sunset. He won’t be as stupid as Craig,” who after an initial vow to leave office changed his mind and instead fought to reverse his guilty plea to disorderly conduct.

But Flynt’s investigation of this second senator is at a tricky pass. “His boyfriend is in a quandary about selling him out. It’s really somewhat of a pathetic situation. But we also have other boyfriends that he’s been involved with.” These earlier boyfriends are apparently willing to go on the record, and have also supplied Flynt’s investigators with corroborating evidence. “We got some motel records. We got some photographs. They don’t involve sex, but sort of romantic walks on the beach and that sort of thing.”

at least looks like a possible? Mittens. I keep thinking about the really good looking movie stars of long ago, like Carey Grant, Rock Hudson, &Montgomery Clift. All were very handsome men as is Mittens. Something isn't real about him though. Maybe this is it!

Last summer I thought he might have a good thing going, but this dragging the names on and on and on and on............gets old.

Come on.... drop the names, if you have them, then go on to the next pervert.

Why keep everyone in suspense? My guess is that he doesn't have proof.

32. In a way, you are right
I have a first-hand report that someone(s) laid bait for Flynt, hoping to trap him and his team with false leads. Thus, the pulling back when the leads didn't pan out. He and his team are being extremely careful. And so, when evidence doesn't pan out, they drop that matter. As it should be. We don't need Flynt rathered.

61. he'd rather be right and drop it than wrong and go public
Seriously. Look at the difference between how Flynt operates and how those despicable Republicans acted who had attacked the Clintons and John Kerry and Max Cleland and so many others. They used bits of partial information to entrap, to destroy.

So Flynt has some bits of info, some trails, some evidence. It is to his credit if he refuses to take it public unless it is totally nailed down.

And look at this strategically. When he says "Some surprising exposes are coming soon" half of Washington starts quaking in their boots. And sometimes nervous people make mistakes that give them away. It's not a bad tactic.

20. good article...
gave me a few chuckles...sign of the times...I guess.
It would take a master economist to chart the complex interplay of greed, shame, and revenge involved in settling on a price for selling out a lover or, as the case may be, a client. Or maybe—isn’t this often so where powerful men are concerned?—something in between. Not that calculations aren’t made on Flynt’s side as well. “Look,” he says, “if we can take down a well-known U.S. senator, we’ll pay the money—we’ll pay the million dollars. But when you get down to congressmen, they’re a dime a dozen. If they’re from some remote area of the country, they’re not worth very much—maybe 25, 50 grand. But presidents and senators are really big paydays.” That said, he declines to lay out a detailed price list, though he estimates that over the years he has spent in total upwards of $5 million on such matters, between bounties and investigative costs.
------------------------------------------------

“Well, I look at it like this,” he says. “The lawmakers in this country don’t deserve a break, because they have so abused their authority by trampling on our rights and constitutional liberties. It’s just unspeakable the things they’ve allowed to happen, either through their inaction or taking an action on the wrong bill. I look at it like, people go to Washington with the best intentions, and they get their pockets stuffed with money from lobbyists and then their constituents can no longer get anything from them. I’m so angry with the political system that anything I can do to cause them misery I will.”

And I hope he rats out every sociopathic, hypocritical one of them.

63. Don't you remember Congressman Bob Livingston, who got completely huffy
when it was revealed he was a wild and crazy guy, and resigned, and, from his new high horse, indicated he thought it was the RIGHT thing to do at the time the Republicans were gumming Bill Clinton to death. He sorely attempted to "guilt" Clinton into resigning before he went back to Louisiana, but it didn't really work out for him.

I thought I remembered Flynt as the agent behind this so I googled it and found this:
The most prominent mounted head on his trophy wall is Bob Livingston, the GOP Louisiana Congressman who was about to become Speaker of the House when Flynt revealed that he had been involved in an extra-marital affair years before. Livingston resigned his seat just as the House prepared to vote on President Clinton's impeachment. It was a foolish response by Livingston that played into Flynt's hands and further confused the public about the reasons for impeachment, which was based on a president manipulating the legal system and his administration to hide his affairs and serial sexual harassment, not the adultery and harassment themselves.

The latest trophy is Republican Senator David Vitter, also from Louisiana, whose phone number appeared in the records of the D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey. He denied allegations that he frequented prostitutes in New Orleans as Palfrey claims, but admits to "sin" and "mistakes" in the past. Was Vitter, who has always been an anti-gay, "traditional values" stalwart of the extreme Republican Right, a hypocrite? Certainly. But is he now? Not necessarily. His prior conduct reflects on his credibility, and obviously diminishes his persuasiveness as an advocate. Nonetheless, Vitter has both the right and the responsibility to advocate societal conduct that he believes is best for the country, even if he fell short of it in the past. Whether those failings by his own standards make him an ineffective advocate is a practical consideration, but his advocacy does not become wrong because of Palfrey's revelations unless his position is a sham.

In contrast to Livingston, Vitter's past conduct is inconsistent with his policy positions and the social philosophy he routinely supports as Senator. Because of this, the public and his constituency have a right to know about it, private or not. Flynt's determination to bring Vitter's past to light then is not, by itself, unethical, even though his method of doing so----essentially posting a bounty---is unsavory.

64. Did you see in 1998 when
he exposed Speaker Bob Livingston's affair, thus leading to his resignation?

57. Flynt has a long, long history of these promises
Almost none of them come true and they are used for publicity for his magazines.

66. Since this article is from December 20..may I mention that Tom Tancredo just dropped
out of the race?

Only saying...

My gut tells me it is Mitt...cause Karl gravitates toward those he can control through whatever means necessary, including blackmail I am certain.

71. Larry, stop teasing
It makes me wonder if Flynt puts this out there hoping that a gay Senator will resign.

72. OMG - are all republicons into deviant sex?
Why do republicons have so much trouble with normal, healthy, adult sexuality?

Apparently, as they prove to us over and over and over, republicons are all twisted...

77. It's gotta be Romney. That guy is hiding something. He's also a chronic liar

So he definitely fits the profile of one who might be leading a double life.
