DLC's Al From is Missing & Laying Low Since His Favorite Politician, Lieberman, Endorsed McCain?
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 12:08 PM by David Zephyr
Anybody heard lately from the DLC's Mr. Al From?

You remember Al From. The greatest corporate toadie in the history of the Democratic Party -- who has made a nice living luring Democrats away from their convictions. It seems that Mr. From has disappeared since all-time favorite politician, Joe Lieberman, endorsed a Republican for president.

Even the crusty old Republican columnist, George Will, couldn't resist this week mocking Al From, who Will wrote, "loved all things Lieberman".

Where's Al?

Is he hiding out with Phil and Wendy Gramm? Remember them? World-class corporate toadies, Senator Gramm and his wife Wendy were both up to their jowls in Enron money and corruption and when the scandal first broke...poof, Phil announces he was leaving the Senate and then he and Wendy vanished from site. They are laying lower than an armadillo turd down on I-45 these days.

Maybe Al is under the armadillo turd with them?

In any event, just because he's laying low, doesn't mean that he gets to not be spotlighted which is why I'm posting this thread.

Where's the big mouth of Al From now that his closest ally went Republican?

I also notice that those who supported Al and his DLC here at the DU have been very, very quiet of late.

Any love for Mr. Al From here?

4. Yeah, I'd seen that. I don't think Mr. From is saddened as much as embarrassed and exposed.
Thanks for your link.

3. Love for the man who said Gore made a mistake in 2000 by emphasizing he would "fight for the people:
Al From, the DLC's founder and CEO, opened a freewheeling discussion forum by arguing that Democrat Al Gore made a huge tactical mistake by continually emphasizing that he would "fight for the people and not the powerful" as the nation's first president of the 21st Century.

He's a behind the scenes parasite on the democratic process. Would love to know what his yearly take is.

Al From Gets Religion
Posted by Joe Klein

A press release from the Democratic Leadership Council today:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In reaction Senator Joe Lieberman's (ID-Conn.) endorsement of Senator John McCain's campaign for president today, Al From, founder and CEO of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) released the following statement:

"I am very saddened by Senator Lieberman's choice, and profoundly disagree with it. We need to elect a Democratic president in 2008."

For what it's worth, I don't think the Lieberman endorsement is going to help McCain with unaffiliated voters in New Hampshire. The Republican-leaning independents were probably heading toward McCain or Giuliani anyway. Unlike 2000, the Democratic-leaners will not cross over to vote McCain. They'll be more interested in influencing the tight Democratic race. And I'd bet that the relatively tiny group of truly independent voters will trend toward the Democratic race, since it's much more interesting.

This endorsement was more a matter of sentiment than of strategy: Lieberman and McCain simply adore each other, in an embattled way. They share a myopic, and wrongheaded, view of Iraq, a view that has intensified as the Anbar Awakening succeeded and Baghdad's ethnic cleansing reduced the violence there. Both talk of "victory" in Iraq, which is foolish. Neither understands the importance of the intra-Shi'ite conflict in the south in determining the future of the country. Both want to bomb-bomb-bomb bomb-bomb Iran. I don't think many American voters agree with them.
