With What is Riding On This Election, We Need Edwards Who Beats Repubs By Largest Margins...
Think about all the damage that has to be repaired by the next President just from the Bush ADministration.

THEN THINK ABOUT .... there may be 3 or more Supreme Court Justices for the next President to Nominate. The economy will be failing ... but the middle class and poor are especially vulnerable.

And if we don't start weeding out the corporate influence in government now, we may not have this opportunity 4 years later.

Edwards reaches out to the Independents/Undecideds and Unaffiliated Voters, and would be a "Repub Killer" in the next Election.

He also would reach down and bring lots of Dems with him to make up larger majorities in Congress.

THere is no down side to an Edwards Presidency.

1. Which Edwards?
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 05:42 PM by MannyGoldstein
The war, free trade, bankruptcy bill, and predatory lending hedge fund Edwards? Or the "I'm sorry for everything I did, now I'm a Liberal" Edwards?

Will someone tell me how I'm supposed to know which Edwards would show up on Jan 20 2009?

As to winning by the largest margin - remember a few weeks ago when Hillary had 115% of the vote, was running an absolutely perfect campaign, and was utterly unstoppable? Polls mean absolutely nothing more than a month out from an election, and not very much up until the final few days. Even then they're not great predictors.

3. OK give us the LINK to Hillary's "115% of the vote" a few weeks ago, as you allege... Hmmm??
You really should get a hold on your keyboard and think before you type.

6. I Only Trash The Phonies
We get into trouble when we elect phonies - people who present themselves as other than what their record demonstrates. I watched Bill Clinton and his "Ahm for the average American who plays by the rules - ah feel your paaaahn....". Then Corporate America ran wild, jobs were sent by the millions to China, and torture became US policy for the first time ever.

We really need to keep our eyes on what people do - not what they say. Bad people will say anything to get elected - but their records tell us what really lies within.

16. Any Specifics? Or Is This A "Truthy" Kinda Thing?
Look Edwards talks left but - on the most important issues - he voted and acted hard right. Same with Clinton. If that isn't the case, feel free to disabuse me of my thinking here.

with some abruptness if necessary.

John Edwards is the most electable Democrat

Posted on Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 1:21 PM

"Did you know that Fox News hasn't published a single poll showing a general election matchup between John Edwards and a Republican? On the other hand, Fox has released 23 matchups featuring Hillary Clinton and a Republican -- and 10 with Barack Obama.

Fox must know what a comprehensive analysis of publicly available polling data shows: John Edwards is the most electable Democrat, leading Republicans by 8 points on average, compared to 5 points for Obama, and 3 points for Hillary.

What makes this especially impressive is that Edwards has actually gone through a national campaign -- he's been on the ballot in all fifty states. Like Hillary, he's already been through the Republican attack machine -- and he's still the strongest Democrat."

9. How do you know he beats republicans by the largest margins?
Because the media tells you? Because there are polls that say so? It may or may not be true, but if either of those are your reasons, I've got a couple of bridges for sale.

14. The "fly in the ointment" is that our Dems have NOT fixed Voting RIGHTS!
They left it up to the states to get rid of the faulty voting machines. And this is 6 years after Selection 2000...or three years after Kerry won in 2004!

How can we rely on these machines. Ohio and Florida are trying to get rid of them....yet New York State is in a battle with the US Justice Deparment that wants to enforce these machines on their voters who've had a record of the old "Lever Machines" not making mistakes.

THEY will steal 2008 just like they did '06/04'02/00! That Mouthpiece for the Right, Michael Barone, who is a Fox Fundie Mouthpiece was on CNN Booknotes twice today talking about the "49% America" where in his New Book he talks about how "close American Elections HAVE BEEN AND WILL BE! FGS...Fox's Barone is telling us they will STEAL ELECTION '08 like they STOLE THE REST! But, Barone is already "seeting the stage" by talking about "49$ America!" He's SETTING IT UP!

And what has our Dem Congress done to fix our Voting Rights Problem since 2000? They ramped through HAVA ACT...and all the OTHER VOTING REFORMS have been DOA! Which goes AGAINST WHAT CONYERS (in his Basement Hearings) and OTHERS ...Promised Us.

At least that's my assessment of what's gone on.

15. Choosing Edwards is a capitulation
We need a real liberal - not a guy who chose to be liberal for this particular campaign. No more surrenders. This party has surrendered enough.

18. Edwards has NOT 'chose to be liberal for this particular campaign'...
Edwards has consistently worked for the rights of individuals since he entered politics.

He was instrumental in helping to write the "Patients' Bill of Rights" legislation, and worked closely with Ted Kennedy on education bills, all while part of the Senate. He offered amendments to lessen the impact of bills which would negatively impact individuals.

It just is not true that Edwards has 'changed' his political philosophy.

22. we also need Edwards because he has done something no other Democrat has done . . .
and that is run a populist campaign . . . I've often said that I'd support any candidate who made populism a campaign centerpiece, and I'm delighted that someone finally has . . .

so who do we vote for? . . . the corporatists, or the lone populist? . . . for me, the answer is easy . . .
