‘Sleeping with the boss’ common at KBR in Iraq
http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou071214_tj_kbrfolo.176e684a.html

Working in Iraq wasn't always an adventure for Linda Lindsey.

"If you wanted to get a promotion you didn't necessarily have to have the qualifications,” remembered Lindsey, a former KBR contractor. “You just needed to be sleeping with the person who was doing the hiring.”

Lindsey spent two and a half years at the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq working for KBR. She coordinated military housing among other responsibilities.

Though she did not know Jamie Leigh Jones, the young KBR contractor who says she was drugged and gang raped by colleagues, Lindsey said Jones’ allegations are not surprising.

You must Whip It, after all...

Actually, it sounds like the old building of the Alaskan Pipeline days.. Living proof that if you pay people enough, they'll live in a Gulag...

2. ick...
conservative GOP values. Why do young GOP women believe you have to sleep with someone to get ahead? That went out in the 1950's.

Oh, wait. That's right. GOP'ers think all women should behave as they did in the 1950's. Sluts at work, slaves at home.

That Jamie woman was TWENTY years old.. What "special skills" could she have had, at that tender age, that made an Iraqi assignment necessary? She was a cute blonde young-thing..a toy for the "macho-men".. THAT'S why they hired her.. Of course she probably did not realize it. Young people are idealistic, and she probably thought she was going on a well paid adventure, and when she came back home, she'd have some money and couls get a head start on a rich life..

Shame on her parents for not leveling with her and trying to talk her out of it..

Our youngest son was actually thinking of signing on for a season of King Crab fishing off the Alaskan coast..He had a friend who had an Uncle with a fishing business up there, and his friend had gone a few times & bragged about all the money he made.. we were successful in talking our son out of the "adventure", but for a while there, that 18 yr old kid was really thinking about going..

5. King Crab fishing is about the most dangerous job you can have
I think something like 1 in 3 Alaskan crab fishermen eventually die on the job. I had a real Alaskan friend who told us the only people who sign up for those fishing cruises are people from the lower 48 states. Alaskans won't go on the ships, considering how dangerous the job is.

6. True.
A friend of mine, her son
has worked on a boat King
Crab fishing for several
years. When he is not working,
he lives in Seattle, and is
in NC for about 2 months out
of the year.

7. That's why we were happy to send him to Italy to go to college
instead of crab fishing.. he liked Italy, and was probably glad he chose that option :)

An apartment across from the Duoma vs freezing your ass off and possibly dying.. not that hard of a choice
