If the majority of Americans think torture is acceptable,
"at least in some occassions", fine. Incredibly stupid, incredibly short-sighted, and incredibly dangerous to us all. But fine.

But then let's forget the bullshit that fools nobody but dumb Americans. Bullshit about how we're the "good guys" and we "stand for freedom and justice" and "the rule of law" and "innocent unless proven guilty" and all the rest of the crap so hypocritically spewed.

Let's start chanting the TRUTH about ourselves;

AMERICA TORTURES PEOPLE.

AMERICA KIDNAPS PEOPLE AND KEEPS THEM IN SECRET PRISONS.

AMERICA JAILS PEOPLE WITHOUT TRIALS.

If we're so happy with torture & secret prisons and being spied on by our own government, etc etc etc, then there's no reason to not beat our chests and shout the TRUTH. After all, the entire world knows very well the truth of the above facts. Why bother trying to fool ourselves?

Wake the fuck up, America.

2. I really "liked" that headline I saw everywhere yesterday about waterboarding "saving lives"...
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/11/agent.tapes/

This was all over the place yesterday.

But what isn't being said is that if we put everyone in prison, take away everything you have, every right you have, we could ALSO probably "save lives".

It just wouldn't be a life worth living...

6. Every western Intelligence agency tortures
And before you diss Americans alone, I'd check out the opinions on "harsh interrogation techniques" in other nations.
So long as it's not called "torture", it's acceptable.

Manufacturing psychological responses to a word and actually instructing the populace are two different things.

13. Yeah, but no nation tortures with the pride & publicity that America does.
Most countries like to keep it secret. Americans are proud to torture.

14. There's a difference between manifesting a culturally enforced opinion and actually holding it
I'd rather have a country be honest about that sentiment than mask it behind socially acceptable bromides.

10. America, fascist and proud of it!
All of those principles our country has always pretended to uphold, supposedly raising this nation to a level high above the rest of the world, have now been openly discarded. The farce of "democracy for all" finally shows its true colors, a truth that so many minority, indigenous, or disenfranchised persons of this nation have always known, too well. Finally, our bloody history has caught up with "the land of the free" and we are known for the inhumanity our country was built on.

Freedom and justice for a select few...always has been the calling card of the USA.

11. I don't think a majority of us do believe that.
I think both our perceptions and our opinions are being carefully managed.
