Unclaimed Ticket May Have Been Lost

:banghead:

BOSTON --

Massachusetts lottery officials are launching an all-out search to find the winner of a $1 million scratch ticket jackpot.

It's a $5 Jubilee 25 ticket and lottery regulations require that tickets must be cashed a year after their purchase.

It's unclear whether someone actually bought the winning ticket or if it was simply lost before being scratched.

“The ticket could have fallen behind a store counter or been used to clean up a spill or be at the bottom of someone’s book bag unscratched,” Lottery spokesman Dan Rosenfeld told the Boston Herald.

The game is now closed out and the search for the missing ticket is unprecedented. It will require lottery investigators to reconstruct the paper trail of where the ticket was delivered.

“It’s a bit surprising people leave this money on the table,” Rosenfeld said. “We want our players to take their winnings when they’re lucky enough to win.”

Any unclaimed winnings are ultimately rolled back into the prize pool, which was $3.2 billion this year.

I don't buy tickets but in this case I would have been willing to make an exception! :P

9. "Billions over Baghdad"
Billions over Baghdad

Between April 2003 and June 2004, $12 billion in U.S. currency—much of it belonging to the Iraqi people—was shipped from the Federal Reserve to Baghdad, where it was dispensed by the Coalition Provisional Authority. Some of the cash went to pay for projects and keep ministries afloat, but, incredibly, at least $9 billion has gone missing, unaccounted for, in a frenzy of mismanagement and greed. Following a trail that leads from a safe in one of Saddam's palaces to a house near San Diego, to a P.O. box in the Bahamas, the authors discover just how little anyone cared about how the money was handled.

Kinda makes one million look like a drop in the bucket...

10. Yeah, I know that but didn't get the "connection" to Boston.
Still don't but thanks for the reminder. :hi:

One million is not a drop in the bucket to me or the ticket holder, I'm guessing!

11. Just a joke...
I was just making a joke.

And if my arithmetic is correct, 9 billion = 9,000 one-million-dollar winning lottery tickets...

Yeah, I could use a cool million...:D

3. Oh thank God it was Massachusetts
I buy them here in TN and rarely check to see if I've won. I just don't think my odds are worth the effort to check the numbers. And I'm right. I have never won. Maybe there is someone in Massachusetts just like me.

7. Why don't you check the numbers?

How do you know you never win, if you don't check?

Check them and then send me a check if you don't want the $$!

I hope it's not someone in the National Guard that recently got
deployed and forgot about the ticket or has it in his trunk there.

Or someone who had died and didn't tell anyone they bought the ticket.
